Do I need a new THERMOSTAT

Outside Temp 5C

Temp gauge takes 8 min to reach centre of gauge driving at 30mph

Yep - quite normal. There's a lot of coolant in a cold system and the engine isn't doing much work at 30 mph.

Fantastic car had it for five years

It has always been like that. I think it must be me feeling colder old age 80

Yes it takes a while, I came from toyota avensis 1.8 petrol and in Lexus I need to make double of the distance to warm up engine.

My 250 was much slower in warm up than my former Is200. 2000. But i did a flush on the gearbox and that change it a lot, not as fast as the Is200, but much better.
