Inverter reconditioning ???

Recommended Posts

I would imagine that, just like any other electronics, they should be repairable but access to spares and schematic diagrams may be the problem.

The inverter contains other items apart from the actual drive system for the car. It also contains "as separate circuit boards" the DC to DC converter to charge the 12 volt Battery, the inverter drive for the AC compressor motor, and the buck boost converter that boosts the Battery voltage from 288 volts to 650 volts. On there own these would be useful items to keep in stock to repair other faulty units.
It is also possible that just one faulty FET " a type of high current transistor" would be a likely cause of breakdown of which there are many in the invert. Good one's could be removed to repair another inverter.

Yes, I know, that's why I was agog with shock - you don't expect any other mechanic/garage to charge main dealer rates.

I think it is a case of supply and demand. He can clearly get away with those rates for that reason. If the faulty inverter is of no value to you, I think you have made  a sensible decision. Cast your bread on the water !!! 😜. Good luck, Cheers, Roger
