Steering wheel "wobbling" at 70+ MPH

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Finally got back into a Lexus after a few years and we decided to get an IS 250 SE with 112K on the clock. When we got the car I knew it needed a few bits sorting (headlights, minor scuffs, tyres) But after getting it and driving on the motorway for the first time I noticed at about 70+ the steering wheel would feel like its wobbling a bit, as if it doesn't know where it should be sitting straight (if that makes any sense).

I've read a few things and people give many different answers, I've checked if it's due any recalls, just had the rear tyres replaced and will soon change the fronts and get the alignment done. Just wandering if anyone else has had this issue and know if its and easy fix  or could cost me a lot?

Thank you

Hi my first port of call would be to get the front wheels balanced ;as that can cause similar problems .The front tyres and wheel alignment can also contribute ,hopefully any wear in linkages will be picked up by a full alignment .I would recommend using a knowledgeable independent with a Hunter machine to set up the alignment ;web site Align my car will have details of feedback and recommendations. There are a lot of tyre places out there with ' all the gear and no idea' so its worth taking time to research
