A bloke on Pistonheads hates his IS300h

Just thought I'll share my personal findings with you all. So I typically just leave it in Sport and manual.

I couldn't help but notice that, if you want the car to switch to EV mode (given you're going the suitable speed and not pursuing the throttle down too much), in gear 6 to be easiest.

So for example, I'll keep it in Sport when driving around etc. Just to have that responsiveness at my disposal whenever, but once in traffic, stick it into gear 6 and let it switch to EV. I find this useful as moving off in gear 6 feels even easier to maintain EV only to drive around as it technically takes even longer than the normal drive gear to move off then.

I noticed this works best for me anyway, as I spent a lot of time monitoring eco/normal modes and just found that to be way to hard to be able to sustain the pedal input with my foot to maintain EV mode and got tired of switching modes all the time whilst driving.

On several occasions I have noticed a delay in acceleration when called for on my 3rd gen RX450h.  It's like having a flat sport with some of the old carb fueled cars or very pronounced turbo lag, neither of which is on the RX.  I have found it mostly happens when going slowly on Battery power and then when immediate urge is required.  I thought the lag might be due to the engine having to fire up and cut in.  None of my previous cars suffered in this way but none of them had stop/start and Battery propulsion.  I have to say I do prefer kick down on conventional auto boxes which provides more immediate response, even though dropping a gear or two in the process.  Because I generally drive in a relaxed  way, the extra noise created by the Lexus transmission I find tolerable most of the time but irritating when I want performance.  It is one of the few downsides I have found with Lexus.
