Rear fog lights

Recommended Posts

Try turning them on to see what lights up.

You'll find that the red lenses in the bumper are combined fog lights and reflectors. If there's no bulbs in them, maybe the previous owner took them out as a quick and dirty fix for some problem or other.

Thank you. All the lights seem to work when turned on. However the car just failed the MOT on 2 points. A damaged passenger side rear reflector ( near side) which I replaced today, and ‘rear fog lamp not working, offside rear’. We have had the car for years and the reflectors have never had bulbs in and it’s always passed the MOT. I’m very confused

Have you actually removed the red unit from the right-hand side to see what it's like on the inside, because I'm sure it'll be like this one, ie, with a lampholder in there:

This is from the owner's manual but it's for a LHD car - yours will be on the right.

Thank you very much for your help. I haven’t removed the unit on the drivers side ( RHD). I have looked under the car though and it appears exactly the same as the other side. I can see where a bulb might fit, as in your picture but I can’t see a bulb or any wires etc that would fit to the bulb.
The car was imported from Japan over 10 years ago, do you know if this might be affecting things?

Sorry Rhiannon, I haven't got a clue about that one.

All I can say is that it should be there. I'd definitely take the unit out, maybe even take the bumper off, to see if the wires are somewhere in there but other than that I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.

For the avoidance of doubt and misunderstanding....reflectors do not have bulbs behind them They merely reflect light that is shone on to them.
