What car next?

Recommended Posts

Just a general discussion point, watching some depressing youtube videos highlighting the upcoming sparsity of Lexus UK lineup. With the distinct lack of F cars (believe the RCF is currently the only one to survive), will everyone stay with Lexus and hold out for future F cars be satisfied with such a limited line up or are we looking elsewhere for our power fixes?

I'll be sticking with the GSF long term, maybe a depreciated LC in the future as I do find them sexy, possible Track Edition for bants? The Mrs is happy in her NX. But I don't know what I would do if I couldn't have my F 😞

For me, I'd love a GSF or a depreciated LC500 later in life. The only car that could potentially replace my ISF at present for me right now is the Kia Stinger. Same limited top speed, 0-60 is pretty close, it comes with lots of comfort gadgets, a hatchback boot opening and folding seats, 7 year warranty.

A tuning company called Lap3 located in I believe South Korea, has managed to get 700hp out of the 3.3litre unit on stock internals and it's gearbox safe, plenty of potential. I tend to look at engineering points rather than badges for my car choices and it's nice to go with left field choices rather than the mainstream.

Looking at the lineup and future, Lexus is going with SUV, Crossovers and the front wheel drive ES for UK which doesn't interest me at all. I don't even think we will get the new/old IS over here. Sad tmes

Interesting as my brother works for Kia (head office) and he had a Stinger as a pool car for 3 months, had a thrash in it and was I very impressed and think they are good value for money! I tend to go for non mainstream cars too, prefer having something outside what everyone else has!

Agreed, extra sad times for the UK (for now)

I must admit I’m thinking of going electric next. Only real question is when now...

I looked at Polestar 2, but it was a smidge out of budget when trying to get the Mrs into one. Was also a bit nervous about how good they would actually be as a 'new' car, do think they look nice though. Maybe next time around!

I think they're brilliant, haven't had the chance to drive one though but have sat in one.

Yeah it's a shame. If we get a trade deal with the US, I think the new mid engine Corvette could tempt a few, price dependant.

Another option I've thought of for me is a 500 quid daily, and slowly build a kit car.

Little digression, on a note of someone working at a car company, Dario Franchitti recently did a video on the Gordon Murray T.50 mule at what I think is it's main HQ/factory. At The start he shows Gordon Murray's custom escort on the carpark. Behind that is a silver IS-F, jumping to conclusions if that's someone on here they've got a wicked job, and good taste.

I don't really like modern cars so it doesn't fuss me at all, long term may try get into a GSF when they are a bit older as still offer that more oldskool experience for me.

I don't find myself sticking with brands, I just get what fits at the time. If it's a good car to me it doesn't really matter the brand, I've had all sorts although thinking about it I seem to avoid French haha

I'm in the ISF because I cannot trust the same age BMW M3 to behave and wanted something a little different anyway. General generic turbo 4wd newstuff I'm not bothered and electric I won't be into unless someone else pays for it, both leave me pretty cold no matter the power.

I think I am old before my time, as I have lost interest in most modern combustion engine cars with their 100000bhp and a 0-60 time of 0.0000012, neither of which I care about or could feasibly use on the road...

The tax here on the ISF is 2,400. I brought this Corolla over and just got the Irish plates on yesterday and had to pay nothing for the VRT. They wanted 13,000 for the ISF but I got them down to 11,000. This is my seventh Corolla and with 27,000 miles on it I know I'll have it for many years. Threw on alloys and I'm doing nothing else with it. I think the petrol actually gauge actually moves up sometimes!!! I want to keep the mileage and costs down on the Lexus. A GSF would be the dream car but don't think it will really happen.

Having owned an IS-F and an RC-F, I moved to the 63 (w205) almost two years ago. There is life after F 😆

IMHO opinion, the 63 is more fun than an F car at low / medium speeds, but for my next car I might seek something even more involving..... maybe an A110 or an old school NSX.

I'm hoping that an ISF or RCF replacement comes along, even if I have to step down to a charged V6 engine. I'm not keen on the look of the GSF and the LC is much too big.

The Giula QF is great on paper, and to fun drive. But running one for 5+ years would take more brave pills than I'd like to swallow

I like small cars so maybe a Toyota Aygo GRMN (or whatever the mental one is called). Or a VW UP GTI, but with the badges replaced to make it into a Skoda Citigo VRs

The Civic Type R and Hyundai i30N are on the short list. Like Nathan, having a popular badge are not as important as interesting engineering, and reliability

I suspect I'll stick with my current RCF for another 2-3 years and see if anything comes along

Should take a look at the new Yaris GR, holy moly that is nice! Trying to get one as a run around and leave the F as a weekend type car.

I am a big fan of some of the classic jap cars! Bit of a sucker for R34's, NSX's and 240's

I’ve had my ISF for around 5-1/2 years now, having had the IS250 for the previous 5 years my only niggle is I’ve been in the same seat for over 10 years, I’ve recently had a wobble n seriously thought about a jag xf 5ltr V8 portfolio, a Merc 6.2 V8 C63 (estate due to dogs or saloon)....2 doors never been my thing, also the 5ltr RR sport.......I’ve asked all n sundry n I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t bring myself to part with the F......I can’t part with my old faithful C70 convertible either so it’s possibly another car as daily n dog transporter 😳.

I did look at XFR's before the ISF, i nearly got one last year but PX price was bad and by the time i got an extra 2k via private sale the car had gone! I took it as a bit of a sign and just held out until the right time for the ISF. I'd still love one at some point, crazy amount of car for the money!

c63 estate is a cracking shout, another car i had on my short list and would like at some point!

Yes that's the one. Hopefully I can get a test drive in one soon.

I had a good look around the new Supra, but it didn't do anything for me

XFR is too big for my liking. However an XE Project 8 would be in my fantasy garage, next to an Impreza RB5 PPP

I missed out on a local toyota dealers 'visit' day when it was touring the UK in Sept/ early Oct. Gonna go enquire a bit further once I've got 5 minutes to myself!

I had a c70 t5 coupe with a manual box about twenty years ago. Mentalist fast...or at least it felt like it at the time (before that I had an 8v mk2 golf).  I’ve never heard a car door make the same noise. Incredibly well built car. The early C70s we’re screwed together by TWR, so basically hand built. The Dynaudio stereos sounded better than the MLs in the F cars too.

As for modern equivalents to the F, no offence but I wouldn’t have an AMG...too shouty. The engine blip on start up is obnoxious. Feels like a gold belt buckle. Or a fat man wearing sparco driving shoes. BMW m-cars are too brittle and too highly strung like a Bose hifi with the loudness set to max. I like CL500’s and 600’s - not shouty like the equivalent AMG but do suffer from the Gucci loafer wearing slicked back dyed hair fifty year old connotation.

I quite like the older Alpina’s. I’d have a B5S from 2008/9 but they’re like hens teeth and I think it’s mandatory that you have to go to car shows with them and bore on about compression ratios.

A 928 GTS feels like an itch I’d like to scratch. Or a Ferrari 456. But then I’d also quite like a Citroen C6, an early G-wagon or a Passat r36. So I think I probably just need to have some therapy.

Passat r36 Ummmm . Was looking at one of those on autotrader at the weekend. Covers lots of bases for me 👍 Also looked at R53 mini cooper s. Shocked how cheap they are for the amount of fun available.

Made me laugh I'm exactly the same, it's getting a bit of a problem at the moment though takes me 20 mins to empty my place of work to able to start work I don't even have time to drive half of the time! I blame my parents as it all started with matchbox cars a long time ago the ones with the retro 80's looking packaging good memories.
