IS-F: Purchase Extended Warranty?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just joined and looking at the possibility of buying an IS-F.

My understanding is that if the car is less than 10 years and has a full Lexus service history. Then a warranty can be purchased. Do Lexus still have to inspect the car if the last service was less than 12 months ago?

Thanks

Hi

My F is 2010 with full lexus service history. I enquired with my local lexus dealership about purchasing extended warranty but was informed that they will not offer it due to the car being 10yrs old. I have a 3yr service plan with them and the car is immaculate but still no joy.

I guess I'll have to look elsewhere, shame really!

Your understanding is correct plus 140k mileage limit.

A warranty inspection is required.

I’ve had my ISF for over 5 years now, had a year Lexus warranty when purchased and have had no warranty beyond that year, other than services and tyres the car has cost me nothing....I personally wouldn’t waste my money and wouldn’t use Lexus due to costs, I use a Toyota, Lexus specialist and halve the service costs too.....if it’s been looked after it’ll cost u nothing

I use “Westfield” Toyota and Lexus specialists, they’re based in Rawreth near Rayleigh, their hourly rate is £60 from memory, only genuine Lexus parts, have used them for the past four Lexus I’ve owned 15 years, Lexus know of them as they’re ex Lexus mechanics. Mines going in on the 2nd December for the radiator issue, cost is about £600 from memory,

On the air bag actuator recall Lexus Woodford did a “health check” 🤷🏼‍♂️.....passed the car as 100% and proceeded to ask who look after the car....the response was....oooooh, ok.

whereabouts are u?

You will have ABSOLUTELY no trouble with your car at all!.....Karl cherished that car and she wanted for nothing

High cost of parts vs low warranty cost make the warranty very appealing on these cars imho.

Of course, the likely hood of something going wrong is low. Which is why the warranty is so cheap in the first place.

Depends how risk adverse you are!

£795 for a 2 year warranty Lexus ISF no excess, unlimited mileage, RAC (in other cars & for partner), MOT cover - a single claim on the Mark Levinson subwoofer costs the equivelent.

£1500 for a 1 year warranty (£3000 2 year) Audi a4 s line warranty on 2017 model

£2400 for a 1 year warranty (£4800 2 year) Aston Martin Vantage 5-10 years old

£3000 for a 1 year warranty (£6000 2 year) BMW M4

£3700 for a 1 year warranty (£7200 2 year) Mclaren 570s

People can make what they will from the above.

I personally have claimed on several Lexus warranties, GS300, RX450, IS250, ISF, GSF, I don't think that there is a Lexus that I have never had to claim on however, never had a claim refused. Audi, single claim on the manufacters, refused, a little legal jargon overturned the refusal and Aston warranty, well, more refusals than I have had hot dinners.

Wow £3000 for a 1 year warranty on an M4?  Shows how much faith BMW have with that car. Makes the McLaren and Aston warranty look like a bargain 😂

Barkingside so Lexus Woodford would be handy for me.

Makes the Lexus warranty very good value. Can't believe how cheap it is compared to others!

Can’t vouch for Lexus as I don’t use them, Westfield do have courtesy cars available when booking, the first service is normally a bit of a blank cheque, although not to expensive as they like to go through the car to see exactly how it’s been looked after, they never undertake any work without your consent so no nasty shocks

Lexus confirmed with me over the phone, without inspection needed, that they would extend the warrenty as they could see the full service record on their thier systems. So might be different which dealer you talk to.

Interestingly that was 2 years ago on the Red ISF (which I didnt buy) that's been all round the trade ever since.  Wonder if its had a 12 month service along the way?

I live in France now and cannot get an extended warranty even though the car has been warranted from new in GB. In France it has to be renewed as soon as it has reached 3years old and a GB extended warranty does not qualify.

  • 1 month later...

As previously stated, it looks like it depends on the dealer!

The car I am looking to buy is 10 years old on the 6/1/21, and the local dealers wanted to inspect it prior to offerring the warranty. Suits me fine as the dealer selling the car is looking after that for me 🙂

You can check the standard warranty cost on Lexus GB website. I think all dealers stick to the Lexus price, but its worth a look to make sure you are not paying over the odds

One other thing is the car doesn't need a full Lexus service history either. So long as they inspect it, they will usually warranty it.

I warrantied mine the month it turned 10 for peace of mind. Turns 11 this month and I have a year left.

It was also a pleasant surprise that MOTs are thrown in. I'd forgotten about that detail.

My 2018 Gsf is due for first mot with lex dealer, they quoted just under £1100 for 2 year warranty does this sound right????

To date £1050 for GS (GSF comes under GS warranty) 2 years for the price of 1.

This is correct indeed.
