LS600HL Sunroof seal/Gasket Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi All I have the dreaded deteriorated sunroof gasket (made worse with the recent weather) I understand that this is a complete glass/seal replace unlike say a GS450 where you can buy the seal  OEM 6325130100 on its own. You know what I'm gonna ask has anyone tried to fit a OEM 6325130100 onto an LS600 or 460. Are they even the same size? Welcome your help on this one

The sunroof seal is a knock on trim that is often bonded on to the metal with sikaflex type mastic at the factory.

it is like a miniture flocked version of a door seal

it doesnt seal as such ,it just stops the worst of the weather getting in to overwhelm the drains.

I haven't compared models but would expect all the Lexus models with a tilt and slide type sunroof of that era to use the same seal.

there is a recall on webasto manufactured sunroofs in this style due to the glass delaminating from the metal sub frame  on lesser makes like mercedes and ford ,.......hopefully toyota didn't copy that bit.

try a sunroof specialist for a length of seal or a breaker for a better bit

Thank you very much for your comments guys. I might just try buying a seal and see what happens. It seems such a shame to get rid of a perfectly good glass unit because of a seal that does come off so another could be refitted. I'm encouraged that it isn't the part that really keeps the water out as David explains above. If a new seal works then other LS owners will have confidence to try

I also tested the drains & all four work so very pleased

You may have to live with this glass as the replacement quote from amayama is nearly $600 + duties shipping etc. The parts breakdown shows the seal as part of the product and not obtainable as a separate item so it might not be a good idea paying out good money for a seal that does not fit.

The previous owner of my car dealt with this problem by using a national windscreen and glass company however I can’t find the receipt. May be worth a phone around.

Gonna try that Paul. If you do find info be much appreciated

I have been successful in this respect .

Autoglass repair glass breakage.....

If you do it yourself you will need to remove the glass panel to fit the new seal.

while it is out use tissue or kitchen towel to dry the joint between glass and metal subframe and apply a bead of polyurethane sealant like sikaflex( now available from screwfix) between the two on the inside edge of the metal subframe, just in case they did copy webasto............

Not sure if it helps but I was experiencing a similar issue (perished seals comming away on the 600). Took mine to the local dealer and was very surprised when they said they could just replace the glass and seal. If I recall correctly was just over £500 to replace, prior to lexus owners club discount! It's so much quieter since and a much newer and thicker seal is in place. Happy to take a snap of the part number used if it helps.
