Hi, my beloved LS400 in great nick with only 60k on the clock rear windscreen shattered.  Autoglass can't get one and so far all other routes have come up blank.  Got in touch with Lexus where I just had the two steering ball joints, service and MOT and they have confirmed the glass is obsolete...It would break my heart to have to write it off via my insurance, I have had the car 11 years, had 30k on it at the time and I still have the original bill of sale (£49,000) from Lexus Sidcup.  Anybody out there have any ideas where a rear windscreen may be obtained?....Thank you.

Oh that sucks. Obsolete windscreen after only 23 years? Seems a bit rubbish.

I wonder if it would be possible to cut one out of another car. No idea if that's possible with the kind of cement they use though, and I guess you'd need a specialist to do it.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Well... how deep is your pocket 😞 depending on your vin and exact registration in '97 you should be able to get the glass from amayama or rockauto but whether you want to try and import glass without incident...

I use megazip (suggested by another member) to find the correct part number, I've used '64810-50180' from guessing some details about your car and prices start at £300 - not including shipping from rockauto and £870 not including shipping from amayama...

Thanks Hockeyedwards, checked it out and indeed the glass is available for around £1400 delivered.  Cheaper than Pilkington by 3.5k!!  I love this car...but when is enough enough??  Was offered £4500 a year ago due to condition and mileage but could not bear to part with it.  Had it since 2010, a friend's dad had it from new (Still have the bill of sale £49,000) and gave it to me for 2k as he could no longer drive and due to the oil price/fuel crisis at the time couldn't give it away and just wanted it to go to a good home.  Find it hard to stomach Lexus rendered it obsolete after just 17 years.  The glass is available in Japan so you would think they would, at their discounted cost, get a few over to the UK as broken windows are getting more common especially with all the tarmac breaking up causing chips the size of conkers to kick up!  Anyway, no good ranting, may have to take the £2100 insurance write off up the chuffer and move on.  Was considering a SC but this has made me think again.... Hmm 🤔 may get tempted by a low mileage 460 though!!  Have a good evening. 😎

Good shout about getting one from a car being broken, I'd be inclined to see if you can get one privately from the states, just did a check out with one from rockauto, between £800 and £1100 with shipping. Rockauto are quality and the fedex postage has always been spot on.

Shame to write it off but sometimes hands get tied and in all honesty it is just a car... can always enjoy another one or something else.

Do what's best for you 🙂
