Initializing tpms on lexus gs450h

Hi People, so i decided to get my alloys refurbed but i was later informed by the shop that some of the sensors needed replacing. so i decided to get 4 sets of sensors and fitting kits for a whopping £320. After collecting the car i ensured the pressure was correct 35psi front and 36psi back then i tried to registered the id codes on Techstream but it stated to Terminate initialization by connecting TC and CG of the DLC3 for 30 seconds. I have tried initializing from the reset button under dash like the manual states but after holding for 1 minute or so there is no blinking from the symbol on dash.

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

Hi Lee,

Did it actually register the new codes?  It has been a while since I did one of mine in TechStream, but it seemed to be ok.

Having said that, I have also had the problem of it stating Terminate initialization, but for the life of me I can't find the post I made about it on here detailing why it happened.

Hi mate thanks for the reply. How many sensors did u change?

I'm not sure if it could be that I haven't put the codes in the correct order to replace the ones that came off but I have tried numerous sequences without any completion.

So what was your procedure after the terminate initialization message came up?

I just changed the one as it broke when I was having my wheels refurbed.

I did have to get the guys to remove the tyre again to get a picture of the sensor itself as the code that was on the packaging wasn't correct when I came to program it.

As for the terminate initialization, that's just it, I can't for the life of me remember why it happened or what was done.  I will have another hunt and see if I can find the posts.

Well, I have found the post I was after.

Unfortunately, it proves (a) my memory isn't what it used to be, and (b) I didn't solve the issue in the end.

If you look on the post, you will see that I eventually took the car to the dealer to get the sensor registered:

Annoying to say the least, so I wonder why it doesn't work with the TechStream.

I found this post that shows which pin in the obd port which is also referred to as the DL3 needs to be connected in order to terminate but I'm not sure how accurate this is and if it will work I dont want to blow anything up 😬.

I think I may have to take a trip to my lexus specialist to see if they can work their magic.

Next time I will most probably try to disable the tpms sensor box as it has proven to be a very expensive way around keeping tyre pressure and I am sure I will cope without.

It's definitely too risky for my liking. I will wait and see if I can initialize at a later date through the reset button.

I have rang around but everyone suggest going to lexus.

I may have to bite the bullet and get it done but for now Its ok.

If anyone knows how to disable tpms on the gs450h please let me know thanks.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a quick update, so I managed to find a video on youtube going through the DL3 initialization process.

So I used a paperclip and connected the 2 terminals, the lights on the dash then started flickering, I left it for 30 secs then removed the paper clip and tried to register the tpms but still came up with the same message.

Next step will be to try and disconnect the tpms from the module. If I can find it.

Will keep u guys posted

If you aren't just getting a constant flash when you short the two terminates then you have error codes which the light pattern is displaying. What are your error codes?

The example above show error 13 (1 short pause 3), longer pause to indicate next error then error 33, then extra long pause to show end of error sequence and then repeat starting with error 13 again.

When I get a chance I will check.

Which code would relate to tpms or is there a particular fault im looking for which needs to be rectified before registration can take place?

Lexus want £160 just to type in 4 sensor codes even though I already have a picture of each sensor and the wheel it's on.

There are around 25 different codes related to tmps, you cannot have outstanding errors if you want to register a sensor.

Do these codes not show on the techstream? 🤔
