Alloy wheel repair needed

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't pay anymore than £70 for that damage to be honest.

Like I said I had a smart repair done on a 20" wheel around the whole rim for £55. And a 20" diamond cut rim fully refurbished for £125

If you are near the Wheel Specialist they are worth ago our dealer i could not recommend enough 5 star work

I contacted them and they gave me the £180 quote which was apparently for a full diamond cut refurb.  Got a quote of £65 from a mobile repairer called Sweet alloys based in Southampton whose work looks impressive.  No Chips Away rep near me so now waiting to hear who Lexus Poole recommend plus there's another wheel specialist a few miles away.  I'll update with pics when done, it may help someone else in the future.

Hi all.

Mike are you sure they are diamond cut wheels looking at your picture they look ordinary alloys to me.

This is what the Aygo wheel looked like before the refurb.

No, mine aren't diamond cut, the repairer made an assumption even though they had photos.

There is a brilliant place at Tewkesbury called Reinventing the Wheel. Probably too far away from you but they would do this repair for about £70-80 I would think based on work my family have had done there. This does mean there are places out there that offer a good service at a reasonable price.

I second the recommendation for Reinventing the Wheel at Tewkesbury and, from memory, £70 was about the price per wheel.

Was it done with the tyre on or off Mike? I know some just deflate the tyre and push the bead back off the rim I just don’t understand how they access the edge of the rim with the tyre still on.

I had mine completely refurbished for £80.00 a wheel, again I’ve heard stories that some companies only do the face of the wheel but mine were completely done.853FCEFD-05E4-47FB-8A38-49D41203D244.thumb.jpeg.b23b0e21356a82fd2d199df2a1edf382.jpeg

All done! Sweet Alloys, a Southampton based mobile service came out this morning.   Happy with the result and price.  Even better that my wife felt guilty and handed over the cash, a rare occurrence in itself!20210316_124847.thumb.jpg.3e2882cab96d413149a1e9f9b7e10d14.jpg

No idea Steve, I left them to it and they knocked when it was done.  I know there's a good video on YouTube where the guy stuffs playing cards between the tyre and the rim to act as a barrier, looks like a neat trick!

You'll have to take my word for it Ken.  She actually withdrew 5 quid extra but I trousered that as a consultancy fee 🙂

Good news! On two fronts - the decent repair and the reimbursement! 😀

When you look at a wheel and very low profile like this it is easy to understand how they get damaged by pot holes. Not much tyre sidewall in comparison to the wheel size. Watch out for those pot holes!! 👍

A great result. Glad you managed to get it done for a reasonable price.
