RX400h brakes dust covers

Recommended Posts

Hello, on a 2008 RX400h I noticed that the brakes dust covers on the rear brake discs are quite degraded and rusty.

The even bigger surprise was the fact that I found out that it costs at least 250 euros a piece; a piece of stamped sheet metal.

The same product, for a BMW X5, cost me 40 euros.

You have discovered a source for these protections at a more acceptable price ?

Regards!

P.S. This is how it looks

I purchased two of these for my 2007 RX400h from MAG Engines who advertise them on eBay from time to time.  With import taxes ( supplied from UAE !) etc they cost me about £170 each.  There is a bit more to them than just a pressed steel dust shield, the thicker steel centre piece provides the mounting base for the wheel hub and attachment points associated with the drum handbrake brake shoes.  It’s a pity Toyota didn’t make them in two separate pieces.

The single coat of black paint (in common with the other RX400h underside components) provides poor corrosion protection for UK climate conditions.

You can cut the outer thin flimsy bit off just leaving the thicker bit that supports the hand brake mechanism and save all that money and hassle of changing them. They are not required to pass the MOT, as I found out before shelling out loads of money. By the way in the US they are about $50 each.

Here’s Rockauto’s offering, even adding in the shipping and prepaid VAT it works out less for a pair than one from Lexus.

This is for a pair!

Personally I would give them a good coat of Hammerite paint before fitting them.
