Hi guys,

I am very close to being a new lexus owner, I was looking at rx400s but decided to increase the budget to a 2012 rx450h.

I sold my 2015 640d a while back and have been looking for some thing suits my needs at the moment.

Comfortable,  practical for dogs and bikes and a petrol, I don't do big milage and will be working from home for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully picking up a private sale 2012 rx450h advance in silver this week.

Hope to be a regular on the forum as I have been driving german cars for 20 years and know very little about the quirks and features of lexus as a brand.

Regards

Ro

Hi Ronan and welcome to the LOC.

Good choice of Lexus model, I’ve heard road taxes are very high over there?

Only been to Dublin once for a break, stayed in a nice hotel on the outskirts but the Dublin Bus Pass got us around nicely. Also took the train around the bay which we enjoyed.

Hi steve

Road tax is based on emission on cars after 2009, so for Example

A 2007 rx400h is 1800 euro a year to tax ( 3k to buy)

A 2008 rx400h is 1200 euro a year to tax (6k to buy)

A 2012 rx450h is 400 euro a year to tax ( 17k to buy)

So cars with the cheap tax as we call it are much much higher to buy.

Messed up system.

And now with brexit our pool of good cars has taken away 😞

dublin is very expensive in general but I love it, alot of history.

If I can add:

A 2006 GS450H is 1.809 euro a year to tax (2,900 to buy)

A 2009 GS450H is 750 euro a year to tax (9,000 to buy)

A 2021 RX450H is 280 euro a year to tax (87,600 to buy)

A 2019 LS5000H is 400 euro a year to tax (94,995 to buy)

A 2004 Prius is 413 euro a year to tax (1,000 to buy)

Does it make any sense a system like this?

Basically the Prius is taxed more than a 2012 RX, more than a 2019 LS and more than a 2021 RX even though is polluting less, has a much smaller engine and especially is a lot cheaper obviously.
