There is also a seal with the nut, as Colin correctly mentions little will escape with a cold engine as the thermostat will be fully closed and leaving the pressure cap on will also help minimise loss of coolant

Oh man I though it was just me and my OCD!!

I cheated though - I sprayed all my rusty looking nut heads in my engine bay and wheel arch with satin black
