Apple Car Play?

Hi Thanks for reading my post.

I am considering buying a 2018 CT200 premier, can apple CarPlay be added to a CT200 by the dealer, I have seen posts on other models in the forum, but not sire if it can be added to a CT200. I have seen a Youtube video showing how to retro fit a adaptor, but it seemed like a mammoth job, needing to be carried out by a specialist.

Thanks in anticipation.

Sorry if I am being ignorant but what does apple Car Play offer over and above what the standard CT200h specification?

Both Wife and I use the car and have iPhones. They both sync fine. Wife uses hers for listening to podcasts/audio books etc via Bluetooth, and take phone calls. Similarly I use mine to stream my music via Bluetooth, take calls use the Sat Nav, listen to the radio.

It replaces the Lexus infotainment system with an apple interface which is better designed and easier to navigate, gives you a choice of Navigation apps to run (apple maps, Google maps, Waze) which are always up to date and have a cleaner interface, and also gives you direct access to other apps on your phone such as Spotify, text messages that get read out correctly, audio books etc without having to access them directly from the phone.

The weather hasn't been good enough for me to install it yet but I've just bought one of these units for my RX.

It cost just under £200 including delivery and took five days to arrive from China.

Here's a video of what it can do:

EDIT: Just noticed that you're both apple and I'm Android but it doesn't really matter as these devices handle both and you'll get the gist. All they are is an interface between your phone and the car's screen/steering wheel controls/audio.

Does it work with the joystick thingy? Our CT has the larger screen, which isn't touch screen. I am just curious.

Yes it would use whatever controls the vehicle has - remote touch pad/joystick, steering wheel controls, touch screen etc. Obviously not on the CT though, as it isn't available, unless you installed a third party device similar to Herbie.

I do miss the touch screen. Beside all the mechanical and technical faults with my last 2 Inifiniti's the software and info-tainment interface was better, than our current CT.

Thanks for all the replies, I need to check what the basic system offers an iPhone user as Damar seems to be ok with it. I use Wayz for sat nav.

 Thanks

Get a Brodit phone holder for your Iphone and just use the phone for Navigation/music etc. You can still have the audio coming through the vehicle's system via Bluetooth, just don't use the in-built infotainment system.

I disagrees I prefer Lexus infotainment system over apple car play. Plus when I got the car I was playing music from my iPhones Bluetooth but now I play All my music from a 64gig Sandisk usb which is great.

Please update when you have it installed as, if it has navigation from Android phones that alone would make it worth installing it. Also how difficult it is/was when you have done it. Android maps show more of the little streets here than the Lexus map: 02-40-51- (2020-05-1), which is the latest from Lexus.
