Just rang the office of my MSP and secretary said he would be very interested in reading the article and specific comments concerning racist remarks against Scotland.    WATCH THIS SPACE.

At the risk of a blizzard of social opprobrium may I earnestly ask before you unleash your slings and arrows at insurance companies and other profit centered firms ask your pension provider where do they invest your money and do you insist on a return? 🤑🤑🤑

No blizzard Phil, just a little drizzle maybe 😀.

Pension Funds are there to provide a return otherwise not long would they last so they will naturally spread their investment, one direction being the use of a market that is for all intents and purposes legitimate and profitable but not necessarily beyond reproach. 😉

A reply on this topic made about an hour ago has annoyed me.

A reference was made about a Scottish Minister living on an island with a wife named Agnes.  I am Scottish and my late mother was named Agnes.  We dont live on an island, but take great offence at those comments and references.  Why was Scotland chosen to make those racist and bigoted remarks?

Ah yes Bob, but in all fairness he did say it was a bad line. 😉

Just to be clear... the comment was directed towards me and imaginary minister in the joke suppose to take fun of me, not to offend Scottish. In the comment it is very clear that it concerns fictional person in fictional setting. I am certainly not offended by it and apart of that I think the joke is now being taken far outside of the original scope.

I appreciate that other people may have difference sensitivities, but humour cannot be taken literally nor to be censored... whatever was said was not meant to offend anyone and calling coincidence in the names racist is step too far.

If joke is funny let's have a laugh, if it isn't then let's find another one - there is no point to look for any hidden meaning and take an offence.

Someone somewhere is googling racist insurance companies and getting directed to a Lexus forum 😉

I was about to make a joke about it, but all things considered maybe that is bad idea....

Valid question .... and why do we allow pension funds to be in tax heavens as well?!

Dear boy, a tax heaven is where you pay no tax at all! Therefore the dividends you are able to pay investors (your pension if drawing or fund if not yet) will be that much greater. But maybe the ideals of pursuing health, wealth and happenstance are contrary to your Marxist ideas? (that's Groucho Marx by the way 😎l

No, I just don't like when some are more "equal" than others. If we have concept that we pay taxes to make society a better place for everyone, then either everyone participate, or nobody... And one can't have it both ways (well at least one shouldn't be allowed to).

If I spent all my time watching an empty space then where would I find time to respond to your finely crafted, well reasoned, syllogistically sound argument 🤔

Well, if you don't believe in inequality then clearly you have a superior thesis to that of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. And that, empirically speaking means some form of mind conditioning often referred to as Religious. Socialism, Marxism, Anthopogenic Climate Change etc etc. And if you have not had it both ways you ain't lived Linas 😂. (I am of course referring to English cream teas and jam first or second!

I know how it is, but I don't think there is anything wrong to criticise shortcomings of our society? our tax system etc.

Neither I think pointing out clear gaps in our tax code and unfair advantage it gives to certain groups is a bad thing, nor that makes me marxist...

No Malc, it was Linus saying you can't have it both ways. I said that you haven't lived unless you have had it both ways, referring of course to English cream teas😉 A Scottish version would make both a third way and clearly making a political statement which would never do in the gentle undulating landscapes of Devon or Cornwall

Natwest certainly knows how to lose respect.

One hopes that they will reap what they sow/sew.

I personally hope not John.

They are paying my pension (40 years service) and I have a future 2022 model NX to pay for 😀

oh it happens in life for sure .....  those people pursuing the art of supplicants to the big big uninformed and couldn't care less for society attitudes of bosses in massive now impersonal organisations will rarely achieve a clear conscience and happy ever after ending in life

I suppose having put up with a " system " for 40 years could be seen to be punishment enough though :wink3:

You are of course Malc assuming that they had a conscious to begin with, I am increasingly convinced that some people never had one to clear. Hence when life, as you say, has a habit of sneaking up behind you with a piece of lead pipe they wonder what did I ever do to deserve this? And who can I blame that doesn't involve me🦧

Don't hate me Malc 😉

I worked in IT for all those 40 years so never went near a branch or did any actual banking (ethical or unethical). My conscience is clear 🙂
