Joined to share in the experience of owning a Lexus. Previously owned a 1997 LS400 and currently own a 2014 IS300H F-Sport which I have had about 6 months, and last week purchased a 2008 RX400H. Very apt to be joining today after spending my evening fitting a Grom V Line 2 in my RX!

Hi Brandon and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. Nice variety of Lexus cars you've had. I have to ask why you're fitting a grom unit to your RX? Really bad reviews and from folk on here with the grom. It's taken well over a year for one member to get it running 90% of how he wants it. But anyway we like to see pics of new members cars so snap away and post.

Thanks for the welcome! I bought the Grom literally as a spontanious purchase without much though, but I have to say, less than 2 hours to install, as once the radio and screen are unbolted it was literally plug and play. Have seen the reviews but the RX is my work hack, only being used at max 3 days a week when I go into the office so aslong as it allows me to use android auto im happy! Also used today and had no issues but i know its early days!

Heres a few pics, already booked the RX in to have the wheels powder coated dark grey and excuse the IS, dearly in need of a wash!!!

Its a sad story.... originally my dads who bought it new. I had it for a few years with it getting to just over 280k, thanks in no part to being looked after by Tech One Lexus specialist in Sidcup after getting fed up with Jemca Lexus Sidcup. Then unfortunately she was rear ended by someone not paying attenntion, and the insurance wrote her off!!

Hi Brandon. Sad news about the LS. I'm surprised that the grom works well in your RX. Hope it carries on working. Your cars look good, I like black all my 4 lexus cars have been black. Enjoy your RX work horse, it should serve you well.

I'll join the "Grom working well in my RX400H" club.  OK, it's not 100% trouble free, but I think that's normally down to the apps I tend to use most (b****y Sygic being one of them). Most of the time, it does exactly what I need it to do.

I think it depends what Grom product you are considering. I had an old Grom adapter in my 400h - worked pretty well, needed the occasional reboot. But that was an aux input.

A full VLine Carplay unit is something else and seem problematic.

Yes Colin. My thoughts are anything plugged into the AUX socket will work fine and dandy. But trying to plug an up to date electronic device into an old tech unit will cause issues.

I'm beginning to like the idea of having screen mirroring in my is250 and maybe I'll have another look at the Vaistech and go from there.

I too have found the only issue so far to be Sygic, so just decided to get rid and only use Waze. But literally had no other problems at all. Unit has worked fully every time I have used the car and has been responsive with fast load up times.

Maybe I happened to just get lucky and get a fully sorted one but its worked how I wanted so far so. Time will tell off the longevity but all I can say is its looking good.

I think in reality in its simplest form it is a small computer with an android operating system. The only real connection to the car is the screen which in a sense is no different to plugging an ipad into a TV? In that respect I dont see any real link up of old and new tech so i theory it should work, but obviously will all be down to the stability of the actual grom unit, but lets face it my android phone probably uses more processing power so it shouldnt be an issue 😁
