2016 NX300H Lux Windscreen Replacement

Recommended Posts

We have a beautiful Rosso Red 2016 NX300H Lux with Advanced Driver-Assistance Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatous Emergency  Breaking  with distance control we have owned for 18 months, today we have booked in with Autoglass to have a severely cracked windscreen replaced next Saturday, I’m not very confident that Autoglass will have the correct Lexus OEM windscreen in stock in time let alone be able to calibrate correctly, does any one on the NX forum know of a Lexus glass replacement specialist in North London, or should I go to the local Lexus Service Center? I’m a new member please advise on the best course of action. Thanks you Adam Collins

Would you mind telling me how one gets a cracked windscreen, as my father who has an NX, and his insurance is due a renewal soon, and on the comparison website two company’s with a price difference of £70, the lower one is without windscreen cover and the higher one has, he was mentioning that in over 50 years of driving he has never had to replace a windscreen, so he is considering doing without the cover, but I am thinking these modern ones has camera and whatnot, and it would be sods law that if he doesn’t have the cover, then at some point he could indeed get a crack, and require changing, at huge cost.

My windscreen on my Mercedes had a small chip about 2cm from the edge at the top, it  must have been from a stone I presume. When I called to get it repaired I was told it was too close to the edge and could not be repaired, I was then told of the need to have the camera realigned after so I simply left it alone. Fast forward a year and when washing the car on what was a hot day the cold water on a hot screen was enough to crack the screen. The crack originated from the chip all the way to the bottom of the windscreen.

Call your local Lexus dealership and ask who they use for replacing windscreens. Most dealership use a local company they can trust. They will also know about alignment of cameras etc. You’ll also get a choice whether to use a genuine Lexus screen or a good pattern part. Seeing as they are used to replacing Lexus windscreens they’ll know which ones are ok. Not sure if you are having this done through your insurance company because some insurance companies insist on using Autoglass eg and may not allow you to go elsewhere.

When I had a cracked windscreen on my GSF,(3 week wait to source a new one from Lexus, reported cost in excess of £1000), the Autoglass fitter very carefully took the camera off the old screen, and replaced it equally carefully, with the result that it did not have to be recalibrated. I was told by my insurance company that if recalibration was needed I was to get Lexus to do it and send the bill to them. If there are supply problems with your screen, Autoglass have a direct account with Lexus UK so don't be fobbed off as I was by trying to find out which dealer they were dealing with for the supply.

When a windscreen is replaced the forward looking cameras must be aligned / recalibrated with the new screen. Autoglass told me this. It means the job having to be done in a depot rather than done by a mobile fitter. Fitting the replacement glass carefully has nothing to do with it I’m afraid. That said, I’m not sure what they actually do when they do this. The company who replaced a windscreen on my previous IS said they checked alignment. I wished I’d have asked what they actually do when they do this.

I too had to have a replacement windscreen during Summer last year due to a stone chip which developed into a small crack , which the Autoglass mobile fitter could not fix.

I was concerned that Autoglass would not be a viable option due to to the need for screen alignment etc.

However, I cannot praise my local Autoglass depot (Darlington) highly enough.  They did a first class job and fitted a genuine Lexus screen together with brand new trim etc.  They had all of the necessary equipment to realign the camera etc and I have had no problems at all since.

This was all completed in about two hours, and all I paid was my excess of £75.

In short, I would not hesitate in allowing Autoglass to carry out your replacement.

Agreed ,but in my case  the speed sign camera worked just fine afterwards so I didn't bother to get Lexus to realign. I never checked the lane departure function as I turned this off as soon as I got the car because it was so irritating.  Realignment of these devices should no longer be an issue as so many cars have them now.

To be honest, I did wonder how much of this is manufacturers covering themselves.

Urgh. Moved out of my house on Tuesday. Stressful.

Driving down the M4 afterwards to my temporary accommodation (new house not ready for a few weeks) and a small stone hit the windscreen just below my line of sight. This morning its cracked from where the stone hit, 6-8 inches long already.

My insurer - Aviva - according to my policy documents will charge me a £10 excess to use Autoglass or £50 to use a ‘non-approved’ repairer. Feels like a no-brainier to go to Lexus but…you can’t actually speak to anybody at Aviva as it’s all online (the telephone number tells you this and then cuts off). When I try and make a claim online it only gives me the Autoglass option!

Grrr…😡😡😡

Autoglass did an OK job when they replaced my GSF screen. The only problem was getting a screen out of Lexus as there were none in the country and on back order. I think for a low volume car like the NX, Autoglass won't have much option but to go to Lexus for an OEM screen. Don't be fobbed off with queries about which dealer they get it from, they order direct from Lexus UK.

A bonded windscreen is a structural component of a modern car, according to the Autoglass fitter who did mine they have to use OEM glass for that reason as well as the camera attachments etc.

My 2013 GS windscreen is being replaced today by National Windscreens. 3.5 week wait for windscreen. It was ordered from my local Lexus dealer by NW.

^^ Aviva have confirmed that I can only have replacement through National Windscreens - despite what my policy actually says! Will book in and hope for the best. Told they need me to leave it for a full day and that I’m ‘unlikely’ to get an automatic courtesy car which is what I need.

They do say you only find out how good your insurance is when you need to make a claim. Based on this with Aviva so far, I’d say that their customer service and general interest is appalling! Not exactly what their TV advertisements would have you believe, shock horror…

I had a windscreen replaced last autumn after a stone cracked the screen directly in my eyeline.

My insurer, SAGA, use Nationwide Windscreens and I had to wait 4 weeks before they could source a replacement screen! It's a genuine Lexus screen that had to come from somewhere in Europe. The fitter, a mature chap who had been fitting screens for almost as many years as I've been driving, said Lexus always get OEM screens. He did a great job, was very respectful of my car. Everything worked as it should the ADAS systems were checked and at the time functioned as expected.

That all said my auto wipers are now behaving rather erratically and my dealership says there is no malfunctions but recommend the ADAS to be recalibrated. As the car is in for service next month I suggested they do this at the same time. Yes, no problem, that will be £400 and will take 3-4hrs!

It's something they cannot do themselves, it requires a huge amount of space to set up the various bits of kit, so they send the car to a local workshop that do nothing but ADAS calibrations. They also told me they do not replace screens themselves either, no dealership does, it's just not efficient or practical, they always get one of the local companies in. Unless the customer is paying they use whichever firm the customer's insurer uses.

As regards resetting the ADAS systems if they need it, my insurer told me to get Lexus to do it and claim for the cost. The windscreen insurance should pay for it as the whole point of insurance is to put you back in the position you were in before the event. As it happened , I don't use the lane keeper system and the speed limit detection was no worse than before the screen replacement,so I didn't bother to get Lexus involved.

Yikes. As someone with Aviva - as they were reasonably highly rated - perhaps I'll switch come renewal time.

National Windscreens in Newbury replaced the windscreen this morning. All very good - it’s a genuine Lexus screen, and everything works as it should. Very good service despite appearances (the depot was tiny and a bit down at heel), but the guys were excellent.

All done in about ninety minutes. I’m impressed.
