Not sure I would want to turn it off.

I thought it was all handled automatically anyway...

Quite a few posts here in the forum about AWD.

Makes for interesting reading.

is it really AWD or just the normal 4 WD ?

It has 4 wheels and they're all driven so does All Wheel Drive and 4 Wheel Drive not mean the same thing?

no I don't think so at all

AWD is on one only in the UK Ls460 by the way !

It's standard on my Honda Legend ....  but has to be Engaged when needed, like in ice and snow whatever

It's a different concept on Land Rovers etc

I believe you can have 2 or 4 wheels driving independently with 4WD

I think the gearbox set-up is probably different

Just things I've read in the past ....  it's all a tad tooooo technical for me tho' I'm afraid

Malc

There is no set definition but most people associate AWD with split power between front and rear wheels, which can be altered automatically by the vehicle as needed, and suitable for road use.

4WD, when engaged, typically locks front and rear drive shafts together so power is equally distributed front/rear (and possibly locking differentials as well so all wheels are always driven) for maximum grip but only really suitable for off-road as you need wheels to slip to overcome different radius when going round corners.

Therefore RAV4, RX, NX, UX, LS etc. have AWD

A Landcruiser is 4WD.
