I have a 2005 GS300 and the other day I noticed that one the rear exhaust box heat shields had come adrift and was just resting on top of the box.

It appears it was bolted on to the underside of the body and the holes for the bolts had 'enlarged' causing it to drop off.

Some folks say - 'leave it off' and others say - 'the car could catch fire'.

Has anyone experienced one falling off and if so, did you leave it off or take the exhaust box off and 'patch' it back.

Look for 'repair washer' on the bay - lots of different sizes. Just check out what you need. If the hole gets really big you can use perforated strip to hold over a larger area.

Thanks Guys.

We are moving house in the next couple of weeks and the garage at the next house has a bigger Garage(workshop) and a lot more room, so I'll have a go at it when we move.

I'll be driving the car for about 100 miles (mostly motorway) between now and then, but I'll guess it ain't going to overhead and catch fire in the meantime.

Probably the worst you'll get is a rattle, it seems to happen with all Lexus cars (and others) As above, a few large washers will sort it.
