Rear underbody silver trim

Recommended Posts

What’s the best way to permanently fix this, it has dropped down but remains attached. Apparently NOT bolted on but fixed with sealant. Anyone way have a tried and tested solution? Temporarily, what tape can I use that’s strong enough but doesn’t ruin paint work to hold it in place?

thanks

marty

Looks like the original uses double sided tape to hold on the top edge (step 26 shows removing the tape backing after cleaning the bodywork in step 20).

Just done my rear with Gorilla glue. Slap it on and prop it up with a couple of pieces of wood until it sets (around 2 hours). Just done 1K miles since in all weathers and still intact.

When I took mine off to fit the tow bar they had used tape I have seen before holding on number plates it was a ****** to get off, but if it held that on mine no issues try that.

I don't think the fit is so precise as to make the use of superglue suitable and a small amount of 'take up' means that a very good quality double sided tape is probably the best answer.  I have used a 3m double sided tape for other purposes and can confirm it has great holding power.  You need to get the correct grade.  I have used it to secure number plates too and where these were contoured rather than flat, have put a second layer on top of the first to take up some of the bend.  They can be difficult to remove if required though tending to destroy the backing of the plates if the bond has been in place for quite a time.
