is it coz our Ls400s are old !

Recommended Posts

Ok, over the past couple of weeks whilst driving the Ls400, N reg 1995 ..........  I've been treated with respect for it's age ............and contempt for that too

Let me explain .....  utmost Courtesy and Respect by other drivers, including truck drivers, happily giving way to my revered ancient steed .....  26 years young next month .....  afraid to get too close in case there's some scraping or other damage caused methinks ........  notably experience that when I'm out with my nephew, him driving my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer which he just throws around the country lanes around Newmarket ( where they both live ) and I'm guessing other drivers, often in very expensive cars, just keeping a wary distance .......  just in case they do some really expensive damage to such an ancient sports car .............  likewise now to our ancient steeds, Ls400s too maybe

AND the Contempt issue ......  almost every day now, drivers of quite ordinary cars ,vans and lorries, just treating me like an " old banger " with no get-up-and-go and probably not likely to even reach the miserly speed limit ............. trying to push me aside while they go chasing around, cutting me up, trying to edge me into the slow lane etc

I sometimes have to show them a clean pair of heels and just do manoeuvres that are in keeping with this 4ltr V8  "wolf in sheep's clothing " and give them the surprise of their driving lives ( maybe )

Do you other Ls400 drivers find this too ? ...........  or is it just my  ( aged )  mindset and maybe where I live in Kent

Two more contemptuous offerings yesterday ....... a 70 plate white Seat wanted to zoom past me along a poor country lane A road outside Canterbury .....  me doing about 60'ish and he thinking I was a slowcoach and him doing at least 70+ methinks along this otherwise quite beautiful bendy, windy country road with amazingly poor visibility if you're overtaking and there's another nutter chasing towards you from the opposite direction with equally poor visibility

Jeez I don't know, obviously I let him go past to save on possible carnage

And another red 64 plate Alfa Romeo in heavy'ish traffic on the A28 dual carriageway from Canterbury towards the M2 junction, later in the day on the way home

He decided I wasn't to be in front of him in both lanes full of fast moving cars so he decided to overtake me on the inside and then pull in front of me as he was fast approaching the rear bumper of the car immediately in front of him.

Clearly I was then playing cat and mouse with him but did relent and allow him in front of me to save the carnage again of him piling into both me and the car in front of him ...  Why oh why do these mad drivers persist in thinking a Ls400 is a pile of old Cr-p that shouldn't be out for the day with modern motors

Sorry, rant over ...  and the stupid lines of cars queuing for fuel and blocking so many roads trying to turn into an already over full garage forecourt

Rant really Over now😵

It's not just the LS Malc. I turned away from new cars a few years ago and since owning various 15 to 25 year old Saabs, Hondas, Toyotas and Lexus I certainly recognise what you're describing. I drive mainly in 30-40mph areas but the number of drivers that just have to get in front of me is quite noticeable. Something I don't see when I'm driving our recently acquired new Subaru.

That said, I think the current standard of driving and behaviour is appalling anyway.

I am not sure if it is stress or the number of cars on the road but people do not have patience. Interestingly I did a trip to Thanet, very early this morning at 4.30 am. The journey usually takes at least 30 minutes but I did it in 15 mins without breaking the speed limit.

Most of the time I let the impatient go by, as I ussd to be one of them in my 20's  (though I only had a 1.3 escort I used to tear about in).

The other day I had some lumping great Audi trying to get into my boot, and then we pulled up at some lights, and I thought, lets give it a whirl.  He left behind but when I go home found out on the web that a Q7 sports has 500bhp, so did not feel disgraced.

But it did remind me to 'Keep Calm and Carry On' when in the LS.

I have been looking at a local ES 300h that most days gets to drive in tandem for about a mile across Minchinhampton common.  Looks lovely, but when I read the specs on top speed and acceleration, kind of put me off.  Maybe I am still a 20 year old at heart.
