Powered tailgate problem

Recommended Posts

Having seen threads on the subject from a while ago I’m having issues with the powered tailgate of my RX450h 2010 vehicle.
the tailgate opens manually, but no motor noise except when pushing the boot latch. The fob, cockpit release and boot close make a long beep but nothing happens.
none of the internal boot lights work (all bulbs and switches checked) nor does the 12v power source.
seems to be a complete loss off power to the boot/tailgate area.
I have tried all the resets and initialisations outlined previously to no affect.
I note the issue has cropped up on this forum before and would welcome any advice or insight from fellow members as it is a frustrating problem.
never had an issue like this on my old Rx400h and that had 200,000 miles on the clock!!!!

Russell,

Compared to many members on this forum I am not an expert in RX electrics - - but recall from reading previous posts on this subject - - I'd start by looking at the condition/charge level of the 12v Battery.   I had similar problms a year or so ago, and discovered that it was the degraded condition (inability to hold a decent level of charge) of my Battery that was the problem.

A new Battery resolved the issue.

I also never had this with my RX400h (best car I ever owned). The other half's RX450h suffered the same symptoms as you describe Russ987. After all the checks, including the valet button, the tailgate motor was diagnosed as faulty. Lexus Hedgend replaced it. It wasn't cheap, but all is well now.

Thanks. It’s looking that way. Likely it’s the ecu in the motor which I’m imagining will mean a new motor. It’s probably just one small bush or switch in the motor that’s stopping the power which probably only cost pennies and not the serious money a new motor will cost!!!
