Headlight mot failure

Hi just joined having bought a 2012 CT200h this summer. It's a SE-L model, great car we really enjoy it's blend of efficiency and comfort for urban or motorway driving.

Friday it went to a Toyota dealership for it's annual test, whom failed both headlamps do to the beam being to low. Apparently the headlamp units on both sides have burnt out around the low beam thus the adjusters are rattling around in each unit.

Toyota want £1158 for 2 hrs labour and 2 new headlight units. Lexus have quoted £650 per side inc labour.

Could anyone advise of where to buy 2 new headlights from? They are halogen units.

TIA

Welcome Huw. Sorry to read your news.

Did you buy from a Dealer or was it a Private sale ?

Sadly an independent dealer. 60k miles, full  history, although last service was performed by the garage that mot'ed and sold it to the previous owner (not the dealer we bought it from).

Nice car, silver with black leather has F Sport trident alloys, carbon pack inside

If you bought it from a Dealer within the last 6 months it is His responsibility to fix.https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/how-to-reject-a-car-your-consumer-rights/

Sadly the independant dealer went to ground, offering no comment regarding their responsibilities to consumers. Effectively leaving no choice but to pay to fix car ourselves, as the headlight units required changing to pass an mot.

Keep your receipts and sue him. It is easy to do it on line Huw.

Deffo. Invoicing the dealer shortly, then online claim.

Many thanks

Good. Do keep us posted please Huw, we must expose such people to protect ourselves and our Members.

Please PM me with his name. I will not reveal it to anyone. It`s just that I may know of him given that we are both from Cheshire.

Apparently this is not a one off situation with burnt headlights on the CT and seems to stink of a manufacturing defect.

The fact that Lexus also appear to be refusing to replace these FOC also raises concerns to their seemingly diminishing build and quality control measures.

Rarely have I seen aftermarket versions for anything Lexus but the fact they are available in this instance suggests a healthy replacement market.
