Charging 12v battery

Recommended Posts

I’m doing so little miles now in my 2020 RX that the 12v Battery keeps (according to Lexus Link) going almost flat.  The car has always started but I’m thinking if putting a 12v Battery charger on it.  A couple of questions if I may:

- where is the 12v Battery?  I really should know this😳

- can I slap any 12v car charger on it without causing issues and leave it plugged in?

thanks

Habu

The UX 12v is also in the boot. But it does not need to be removed for charging.

I found a useful clip on You Tube ( sorry don't have a link ). In the under bonnet fuse box there is a red  plastic part which if lifted will reveal a "positive" charge point. Obviously there are numerous places under bonnet to provide a negative.

Worked the other week for me with the C-Tek.

I'm sure your RX will be the same. Hope this helps.

Sometimes if you disconnect the 12v Battery you have to reset certain functions and removing the Battery just to charge it each time is a bit of a chore.  So if you can get external power to it, another way is to connect a 5amp smart charger to the Battery direct.  Alternatively, you can charge up the Battery from the traction Battery as suggested by Lexus.  If you have let your Battery go nearly flat, each time this happens it will shorten its life.

Are any of the power sockets in the car on a permanent live? If so use a trickle charger through one of those, Ctek does a fitment. I used to do this with a few sports cars, including my McLaren with its super special lithium ion Battery (££££ to replace).
