Media screen UV coating removal

Recommended Posts

While it didn't look too bad when in the car I knew something had to be done about the coating.

So decided to take it out of the car and rub it down with Meguires PlastX then wipe down with glass cleaner on microfiber cloth.

Happy with the end result 😁

What's the purpose of the UV coating in the first place? And if it's important, why is not more durable? If it's not important, why it's there? I don't suppose it's covered by any warranty?

It's anti glare coating but on early IS Phase 3 there was some issue with it. It was fixed in later cars and if you get a new replacement screen cover now it will not have a problem.

Thanks. I've got a 2015 plate and in certain lighting conditions, it looks quite bad. I'll have a look if it can be fixed.

Yes, mine is a 2014 plate and has the same issue - once the screen is on not really noticeable but when off looks worse... The plastic screen cover can be replaced (not the screen itself just a plastic screen protector) - thought about doing mine but have never got around to it. This is from a US site all about it and removal and replacement Anti-Glare Nav Screen Replacement - ClubLexus - Lexus Forum Discussion - and here on Lexus Parts Direct is the replacement for the 7" screen Lexus IS Phase 3 7" Media Display Repair Kit — 86134-53030 ISP3 (lexuspartsdirect.co.uk) or the 10.3" screen Lexus IS Phase 3 10.3" Media Display Repair Kit — 86134-53060 ISP3 (lexuspartsdirect.co.uk).

Yeah its the anti-glare coating, should be covered under warranty but given how Lexus Edinburgh always seem to talk their way out of honouring warranty claims, i didn't even bother asking.

New media screen can be bought from Lexus Parts Direct at £82.24 ... it was far cheaper just to remove the coating 🙂

Does anyone know which specific cars came with the 10.3" screen?

All those with premium nav (so with joystick thing - rotary dial control was standard nav) - premium nav was standard on some trim levels and optional on others and changed over the years so difficult to be definitive...

you can just rub it off completely with a baby wipe.

Good to know. I'll probably deal with it on impulse when the Sun is out in the wrong angle and I got out of bed on the wrong side.

Can the 10" screen be bought separately as an upgrade? is it easy to replace? and does anyone know the part number/ price by any chance?

Sorry thought you were looking for the repair kit - I don't believe there is an update available to the large screen

You would need to go 3rd party like the Navirider and have it shipped from far east, expect to pay around ÂŁ550-700
Im still mauling whether to go for something like the Navirider or stick with the current screen (tbh isn't that bad size wise) and just get the GROM Line V2.
the other advantage of the Navirder is that its also touch screen whereas GROM would still need to be navigated using the joystick.

The 10" screen models have a different infotainment system which makes use of the larger screen. If you just changed the screen then you would just have a slightly larger image, if you could get it to work.

You could purchase all the parts from Lexus but it would cost several thousand to do so.

I've never been able locate the 10" screen not even used on eBay.

The 10.3" screen only became a thing on the MY2017 facelift model so there won't be many about.

here's one:

Nice one Colin ☺️

Connection on the back looks the same.

Screen can be bought from Amayama for £331 which is not bad.  But in the grand scheme of things you might as well for go something like a Navirider.  The cost of the screen above and Grom unit would work out more expensive.
