I took delivery of my 350h at the beginning of Feb and noticed a rattle, noticeable at low speeds, coming from the drivers’s door in my view.

It went in to the dealer yesterday and the technician also thought it was coming from within the door.

Turns out it wasn’t the door but one of the panoramic roof brackets. They packed it with felt and re-torqued it and all is now silent again.😬

I once bought a brand new British Leyland car which after 2 days developed a rattle on the offside front, another day later the front offside wheel fell off.

After coming to a grinding halt I noticed the rattle had then completely disappeared 😀

I had a brand new Austin 1300GT in I think 1973 which cost me £1100. Apart from rust which started appearing  after a few months the steering wheel came off in my hand whilst driving. Those were the days. I moved to Toyota in 1976 and have never had any many problems and nothing serious since then

I had a new Metro in 1991, the upgraded ‘Rover’ branded version that the motoring press were raving about.

Very little didn’t go wrong with that car, but my favourite was the gear linkage disintegrating when only a couple of months old…

…on the upside, I don’t think the car ever rattled!

I was a loyal BL customer in the late 70s and throughout the 80s with Minis, an MG Metro, a Maestro and Montego estates. Worst one from a quality perspective was the MG - poor alloys-and a habit of wearing through front brake pads at an alarming rate. Overall the cars were remarkably reliable and the only reason that I went to another manufacturer in 1992 was that BL couldn't supply me with the car I wanted. Mistakenly went to Peugeot (405 estate) and that car was a disaster and probably the worst that I have ever had.

In had a red MG Maestro in the 1980’s with the digital dash that used to cut out at junctions in hot weather due to fuel starvation as the carburettor overheated. Rover put an alloy plate under the carb but it only delayed the problem by a few miles! After that I had a Montego and absolutely loved it!

I’m a mechanic by trade and all this talk of britty leyley’s is giving me nightmares.   Of course they were no worse than anything Ford or Vauxhall but it all seemed quite normal at the time.  I could change Escort timing belts in about 30 minutes with both hands tied behind my back.  Maybe not but the hands thing but the time isn’t an exaggeration.   I remember Popular Mechanic magazine doing a four monthly article on preppping your car to go on summer holiday to the south coast!

I had a late MG Montego EFI (with the talking dash) didn’t really give me much trouble. It was very fast and I enjoyed it for about eighteen months then bought a Rover 827 sterling with the Honda engine. I suppose by the time the late edition models of those cars came out the factories have ironed out most of the commonly reported problems. 
certainly I had good memories of those 🚘
