Winter dirt

Recommended Posts

Having owned my UX for a few weeks and hand washing it a few times I noticed that some of the road dirt thrown up onto the tailgate gets into places that is not easy to remove..

I have marked on the picture where the dirt congregates..

Particular under the tailgate glass.

The red light bar running across the tailgate..

Where the tailgate meets the rear bumper..

I have found that the way to remove the dirt is to wrap a thin cloth around a lolly stick and push it into the gap.

Removing the dirt is not a problem but my point is that the UX is a quality car and maybe dirt traps are something that could be attended to by Lexus during manufacture.

I love my new UX and this is such a tiny problem, but I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this.

Just part of car ownership I'm afraid, regardless of brand or £ spent, it is inevitable that crud will get caught up in the tiniest of gaps.

I would suggest using compressed air to removed though, manual aggitation will ultimately result in scratching, no matter how soft the cloth.

Happy cleaning! 😄

David, not got my Lexus yest but I have a similar problem on my Kia Niro in various places, same on every car in one way or another I guess. I find that I can loosen quite a bit with a hose pipe at close range, never liked using pressure washes on a car.

Car looks nice from the bit you show, is it Sonic Titanium, this is the one I went for.

Hi All, I cleaned my car yesterday and although the colour (Mercury Grey) hides dirt pretty well, it was noticeable in the areas highlighted in David's photo. I also used a hose pipe (with a Draper spray gun with about 12 different settings) and it was effective. The grille is also a bit difficult to clean. It's still the best car I've ever had though!

Hope you're enjoying your car David and that you do too Bill.

Yes David same here i have noticed what you identyfy. Good yourwashing the car yourself that way i always feel you get to know the car better . Tell you what fasinates me after drying car open the tailgate and there is alwayswater dripping down. I look at where it goes and wonder were is it coming from. You can open close the tailgate a few times and it will always drip water. Love the car though.

My new UX is Terrane Khaki.

I started this thread because I have changed from a Lexus IS which being a saloon does not suffer from road dirt thrown up onto the back of the car

Most of my previous cars have been saloons and I would have to go back to a Rover 75 Tourer for my last car with a tailgate, from what I remember it did not suffer this small problem.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, I will try a strong hose jet (not a jet wash) and see how I get on.

I had my UX ceramic coated at the dealership and I received a bag full of goodies including “special ceramic coating shampoo”, a product that produces hardly any suds, it cleans the car alright but it makes me feel something’s missing.                              The gloss finish with the ceramic coat is fantastic, we will see how long it lasts..
