RX400H Air Conditioning Leak

Recommended Posts

My 2006 120k miles RX400H has an air con leak at the junction of the pipe at the front lower right on the condenser.

The condenser had been replaced due to a stone damage leak.

My air con specialist tells me that I need a new pipe (88710-48181). The cost for the part is £466 at my local Lexus dealership or £300 online + fitting.

I'm searching out a cheaper alternative!

Is it possible to reweld/seal the pipe flange?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

I don't know the answer but it may be worth contacting http://www.pirtek.co.uk

I know they do hydraulic and brake pipes, not sure about AC.

The most important thing is to make sure that when it's refilled, make absolutely certain they use the correct oil, ND11, and not standard PAG oil. The refrigerant gas is the same but PAG oil will destroy the compressor.

If the leakage is due to a corrosion pinhole on the pipe then perhaps a skilled aluminium MIG welder could seal it up, followed by a pressure test. The pipe would obviously have to be removed and thoroughly cleaned up beforehand.

The other possible leakage path could due to the O ring fitted to the flange spigot. The O ring should have been renewed when your new condenser was fitted.

I don’t claim to be an air con expert but have replaced a couple of corroded / stone damaged condensers on a Citroen C4 that I previously owned.
