RX400H | Installing Front & Rear Dash Cams | Cable routing and fuse

Recommended Posts

I have purchased a Nextbase front and rear dash cam. I received a quote of £180 for installation from a local company, which seems a bit steep.

Does anybody have any experience of cable routing in an RX400H?

  • Do the internal trim panels 'pop off' easily? For example the 'A Pillar' trim on each side of the windscreen?
  • What about the panels between the front and rear doors?
  • Is it easy to route the rear camera cable through the existing rubber cable hosing?

Finally, what fuse should I use for power? I presume it should only come on when the ignition is on due to the known problems with 400H batteries and the constant power drain when parked?

Thanks,

I fitted a front/rear camera recently. The cables can easily be routed around the windscreen by gently pushing under the panels. The door seals pull off easily and the dash end-panel comes off easily too to route the cable inwards. To reach the rear was much easier than I expected, the cill panels just pulled off and clipped back in place, and I gently tucked the cable in along the rear roof panel under it went under. I power mine from the lower lighter socket on the floor, the hardwire option/fuses looked to much of a PITA to access.
