Is200 V Is300

Help needed

I am looking to buy a new IS300, but have this nagging voice in the back of my head (or is it my wife?) which keeps pointing out the difference in price, both upfront and ongoing.

For those of you have experience of both, is it worth it?

I've owned both. Now own an IS300 sat nav having previously had an IS200 SE sat nav.

I though about buying new but opted for a one year old with DVD sat nav. This came in at approx same price as a new IS200 SE.

Pros:-

* Performance. Overtaking is now a breeze. Effortless cruising on the motorway. Car is much quieter.

* Steptronic gear box (controls on the steering wheel). Great for overtaking.

* HID headlamps. Awesome.

* Auto-dimming rear view mirror. Got it the Jeep, missed it in the IS200.

* Arm rest. Okay, but I've lived so long without one that I find I don't really use it.

* All the chrome bits and bobs; pedals, scuff plates etc. I know these are standard in the Sport but they weren't in the SE.

* Unless you go for the IS200 Sport you wont get the spolier, LSD, lowered suspension.

Cons:-

Heavier on the fuel. Gone from 35 mpg (mostly motorway driving) to about 28/29 mpg. However, I do drive the IS300 more enthusiastically :whistling:

Looking back I'm glad I got the IS300.

Scott has pretty much covered it all.

I started off with an IS 200SE Auto Nav - lovely car but a bit gutless. On regular trips along the A27 between Brighton and Portsmouth, I would be regularly overtaken by anything & everything.

After a year I plumped for the IS300 Nav - never looked back. The extra power is great, the auto box is smooth as silk yet you can have great fun with the eShift. HIDs are marvellous, wouldn't go back to standard halogens. Also the car is much quieter.

Best bet is a 1yr old one (wish there had been some around when I was buying), and don't forget.... haggle! :shifty:

Yes very surprised how many Lexus owners mod their cars with kits & tricks. Not sure i will be able to afford/need to mod the 300, but its fun seeing what others have done with real cars and not the make believe ones of a play station game.

Errr... I live further, plus I stoped to wash and wax the car, get a hair cut, pumped up a tyre, pulled to one side for an hour phone call, watched the complete Godfather series together with Lord of the rings complete box set and 24 series 1, 2 and 3.......
