hi, i just bought myself a new laptop (Toshiba satalite P10-722) and want to now set myself up with a little wireless connection for the broadband to it so i can work anywhere i want in the house.

Question is ! what , when, where , why and how much????

Exisiting network is between my two home PC's both running XP and just networked together with two lan cards. Main PC has a NTL broadband connection which is shared.

Just want to add the laptop as a wireless connection without spending too much, plus i dont have much networking skills or experience apaprt from using the XP network setup.

cheers for any help, also looking to spend as little as possible as i gotta have my rear bumper fixed,

Hi try this at ebuyer.com D-link Di-624+ 54mbps 802.11g Router, they get good reviews and are easy to setup,

But whatever you go for get a known brand with matching laptop card saves time and money in long term average price around £100 for router and card

Instead of buying a wireless router couldn't you just buy a wireless lan card for your PC and connect the laptop to it via peer to peer?

An all-singing all-dancing wireless hub/router/whatever would be my preferred solution but if you just want something cheap and cheerful then p2p is the way to go.

Not sure if you will still be able to get this deal but PCWorrld were doing a belkin cable router and PCMCIA card for £50 a month or so ago.

I have this setup and too be honest it was very very easy too setup is very reliable can use it out in the back garden or in the car on the street.

The only odd thing about it is that the Laptop seems quicker downloading and surfing than the Pc is which is all wired to the router!!

Nick

This is also the latest 54G setup AFAIK the fastest you can get at the moment for a realistic price!
