I have had a good drive in both the IS200 and the new IS300, love the car's styling in and out, love the car's road holding capability. But it is sooooo darn boring! No kick. So I am seriously toying with the idea of getting the RS version with 210bhp from Japan but will i be making a biiiig mistake? It seems people are having a difficult time enough getting the AS version worked on so what will i be letting myself into with the different engine configuration all together?? Anybody in the know please advise.

BUY BUY BUY!!!!!! :D

If you buy one through a reputable importer they will have the SVA done for you and you have no hassle. ( Or buy one thats already in the UK )

I think the problems come when either the wrong people are used are it is tried by yourself.

You WILL get both sides of the coin on this thread and i advise you do a search on this topic to save everyone fighting again!!

Hope this helps you out a little mate...

why ever not? my local Lexus garage raves about the car - saying they wish the IS was this fast... There are plent of independants who'll service it too, I've not had a problem.... Afterall it's just an evolution of a Corolla engine...

So I'm guessing that the only thing that is stopping you from going the Altezza route is the maintainence of it, yes?

If you think you will have problems in servicing etc, why don't you ask around?

Let us know whereabouts you're based for starters, there maybe people with imports that are in your area who could give you an idea.

Try your local lexus or toyota dealer and ask if they service imports etc.

Failing that try locating a garage that specialises in japanese imports and give them a bell?

Ok, in terms of parts etc, I wouldn't worry as this community is all you need...... there are some technical minded people who even know part numbers and even work for lexus etc..... there are some good guys who deal only in Altezza's and specialise in them....... they themselves would be able to locate parts

I hate to be blatantly obvious but check the sponsor

Thanks, all of your positive words are encouraging but you're right, i should do my homework first. I know there are guys that have these cars so it cant be mission impossible. And to OLI_EP3's question, i am in the Watford, Hemel Hempstead area in Hertfordshire. And thank you, i will check the sponsor

Also to my embarrassment i learned that the IS300 i recently drove has in fact got 215bhp, hope i got it right. Perhaps it just seemed so boring because it does everything so well and effortless. Mind you it was an auto.

Still i think the RS-Z model is the one for me and there is scope to play with it in order to get even more out of the motor. Have also seen a Tom's racing version one, turbo charged and around 260bhp apparantly. Perhaps a bit extrteme to be reliable on a longterm basis but nice to think about :driving:

Anyway, i will phone around and see what i can come up with. Not put off by the SVA as i have brought a landcruiser and MX-5 in from Japan before personally, have a mate that runs an export business out there. Although, if i am to get an Altezza i'd probably be looking at an ESVA, gets a bit more complicated.

Thanks so far anyway.

I thought the RS200 was no different to the IS200 in terms of comfort :)

You can't go wrong with the RS200 really. Only complaint i have with mine is that it guzzles the fuel..

Maybe thats got something to do with the fact i have a heavy right foot
