My '97 GS300 Sport's radiator has sprung a leak. (It's got 74300 miles on the clock). A brief inspection shows coolant seeping from the middle of the rad. where some rusting can be seen. Can anyone tell me the cost of a new rad? The car is due for an intermediate service this month, would it be best to ask Lexus Stockport to replace the rad. while they have the car, or is there a way I could save some of my hard-earned? Views of experienced owners would be appreciated, I've only been Lexus mounted since November last.

I think the price varies from £400 - £700, these were the ranges I found when mine went and blow the top part. In the end, I removed the rad, drained and dried out the rad in the sun for a few hours. I then cleaned all the rust and crime off to revelle a long split along the front, about the middle of the rad. Just using a small blow-tourch and some of the thicker solder with flux, did a repair along the front only, took about 2 Hrs to do in total, the hardest bit was removing the rad as there was bolts in the top and bottom that required covers etc... to be removed.

Hope this helps

When the rad on our Honda Prelude went, I managed to find a firm specialising in refurbed rads. It's lasted another 4 years and is still going strong (we sold the car to a friend!).

Maybe worth while seeing if you can find a refurbed one and a mechanic to fit it?

Thanks for the responses. I found a local rad. specialist who can fit a new rad. (with oil cooler) for £175 + VAT. He says the rad is probably the same as Lexus would fit but I won't be paying for their name on the box.
