i went out looking for a ls400 and came back with a soarer ,the ls400 is probably as near to a jap rolls royce as you are ever likely to get ,they go well ,but look like a brick on wheels ,now the soarer looks the part and goes like it looks 2.5tt for sheer speed , the v8 ltd for speed and comfort , the uzz32 active v8 for road holding and comfort , there is a 3ltr a bit under powered but can be modified to a high degree the americans appear to like them for just that they seem to have every bolt on goody imaginable for a 3 ltr.

so do'nt dismiss the soarer out of hand it has a lot going for it

I recently sold a Soarer TT and am close to buying another. As Soramad says, the TT for sheer pace, and the V8 for that extra refinement, although all Soarers are very smooth, refined and reliable cars.

£5K should get you a decent 92/93 TT or V8. Although the car was in production until around 5 years ago, models later than about '95 are few and far between. If you do decide on a Soarer, see if you can get one of the owners here or over at TIF to have a look at it with you. There are one or two common problems with Soarers owing to the fact that many (most) in the UK are over 10yrs old, but problems are fewer than you'd think for a car of this age/spec/performance, and they're relative easy to fix.

Both Toyota & Lexus garages should be able to help with parts & servicing, plus there's specialists like Smiffy's Soarer Sanctuary. Running costs are around 23-28mpg and insurance can be had for around £500-£600 although obviously it pays to shop around as they're imports (also expect to have to fit an alarm for the insurance if the car doesn't already have one).

The original stereos in Soarers are a big double-DIN unit so you'll need to be creative if looking to replace it.

Standard equipment includes things like: auto gearbox with overdrive and ECT/PWR mode, electric/folding mirrors, climate control, remote boot/fuel cap release, stereo, digital dash, dusk sensing lights, etc. Options can include: electric sunroof, TEMS suspension, cruise control, electric seats, leather, etc. You'll find there's all sorts of combinations, plus the V8 tends to have more goodies than the TT.

Manual TT's are rare as hens teeth. Think there's about a dozen in the UK! (Arguably they're no quicker than the auto anyway).

Go on.... you know it makes sense!

Still missing the TT Steve? :winky: I was up at SSS today looking to join the fold again. Tried out Smiffy's mad black TT... yeeeoowww! Don't profess to know how the "BOV", Apexi induction, strut-brace and Mines ECU all work, but they combine to make one seriously quick TT!! I want it...

Incidentally, that '98 FSG manual TT is still for sale oop-north but they want nearly £15K for it!
