thought i would splash some texture paint on,, to get an idea of what it would look like.. didnt have time to put the paint in a spray form so just used a paint brush and 1 layer..

i reckon that might look alright when i get the surface right..

Little tip..

For rough texture spray it from a big distance. Don't spray across. Make sure the item is flat on the floor so the paint sits/lands on the surface. Going in closer makes the texture smoother.

Experiment till you get the texture you desire.. Oh, use primer builder spray for final prep before wet and dry!

  • 2 weeks later...

ok and so on to stage 3

here

here

used high build primer.. then a quick blast with 800 grit. then some SEM textyred paint (which once dry is a damn good match for the dark grey dash surround.

then sprayed with satin black then some laquer.

i think its a tad to shiny, any suggestions as to hwo i can tone it down.

also the irregular surface aroun the DIN stereo hole will be hidden by the stereo fasica.

as a comparison look at there

I got mine from as it happens, so they do sell it. I checked last night, it was Satin I used, gives a satisfactory finish, not too dull as I suspect matt might be. Keep us posted with pics... I am looking forward to seeing the results! I finally got a satnav housing, so I can move forward with my little carpc project now too :)

Are you sure the screen is kaput? If you look on www.mp3car.com a lot of the time its just the ribbon cable. Might be worth getting one of those first. I was thinking of ordering one as a spare for when try to fit my Lilli into the satnav. Fisrt issue I have is with the housing being japanese, it seems to have a smaller viewing area than the ones the guys in the US had. I will either have to do some modification of this one, or maybe try ordering using their part numbers and hope its the same as the ones they have illustrated.

Looks pretty sweet mate, well done!

PS.. Hows the blue dash saga going ? :)
