Fs: Kenwood Dpx-930wmp Cd/md/mp3/wma Doubledin

Recommended Posts

Hola all

Yes I'm alive! :whistling:

Anywayz... to cut a long story short, I've been travelling the world, but now I'm back, and I've been secret squirreling with my Altezza :winky:

As part of my re-found passion for my car, I'm upgrading my ICE... again. I've only had this head unit for about 8 months, and it's been the best HU I've ever had for sound quality and functions, but there's new stuff on the market, and yes I'm a gadget whore, and I want a screen. :zee:

Anyway the headunit I'm selling is the Japanese top-of-the range Kenwood DPX-930WMP, imported from Japan and fits perfectly in the centre console of the IS/Altezza, or indeed any other vehicle with a double-din opening - all you will need is the Toyota->ISO harness.

Features-wise it has the following:

  • CD and MiniDisc (NetMD)
  • MP3/WMA playback from CD - Gapless with 2mb buffer and folder browser
  • Kenwood Music Keg Compatible
  • Full Sound Control features including HPF/LPF/Phase shift
  • Non-Fading Pre-Out
  • AUX Input
  • SRS Sound Focus - this is amazing for lifting the sound around your ears
  • Cabin Sound Focusing (Front/Rear/FL/FR/All) - moves sound around
  • Speaker Time Delay Control - to get the speakers in phase
  • 4x50W Power Output - and works great with stock speakers
  • Multiple movie/spectrum analyser modes
  • Remote Control
  • Station Name Preset (Radio)
  • Disc Name Preset (CD or MD)

As this is a Japanese HU, the radio range is 76-90FM, however with a band expander (I'll supply) you are able to get all the stations in the UK range of 78-108FM. AM radio is the same for 5 Live lovers ;)

All the controls are in English tho, and it's child's play to use, and I'm actually reluctant to get rid of this, though as I want a screen and satnav, it has to go. I'm gutted as the new DVD system I'm looking at doesn't have as good sound control as this... :geek:

Anyway, it's a beautiful unit and looks great in the IS/Altezza - I've put some pictures up on the gallery at:

More info can be seen on the Japanese Kenwood site at:

http://www.kenwood.com/j/products/car_audio/2din/dpx_930wmp/

Anyone who's seen it at one of the various meets such as Paul (Fargo) will be able to attest to it's beauty and clarity.

The original cost inlcuding tax and importing etc, was close to £600, but I'll let it go for £400 including postage etc given how new and pristine it is, or £350 for a quick sale if picking up at a meet etc. - It's got everything including all packaging and remote control, and I'll even throw in a tutorial if you can't fathom the Japanese manual, but it's all menu driven and very easy to use :D

I had a lot of interest on the last HU I sold, so be quick if u r interested as this will go quickly at that price - especially with CD and MiniDisc (PS, the rear of the centre console is perfect for storing about 25 MDs all lined up! :hehe:)

PM me if interested B) or feel free to ask questions here. Goldmembers preferred (obviously  )

:yack: Looking briefly at your (huge)gallery....how could you put that pornography on there!!!???

NO! Not the leggy ...draped over the cars! The picture of theLexus crashed!! Ouch!!

As for sound system. Surely Mini disc and sound quality don't belong in the same sentence?

Good luck selling it though!

Yes the crashed Lex is a bit disturbing isn't it... :crying:

Minidisc uses the proprietary ATRAC compression system, and is superior to MP3 in just about everyway at similar bitrates. The point being the convenience as much as anything (of course nothing is as good as the original, uncompressed!)

I burn MP3s on to CD to listen regularly, and use high-variable-bitrate using the LAME codec to archive my music, but I use the MDs more regularly as the burning onto rewritable MD format makes it easier for me to choose the odd album to listen to and MDs are small. I can fit 2 albums on LP2 mode, and 4 (albeit at discernably lower quality) in LP4 mode on each MD. I stick to LP2 mode mostly. Using MDs also means my glove box doesn't get jammed full of burnt CD-Rs with MP3s!

Any compressed music is going to lose quality compared to uncompressed, but the reality is that you cannot hear a lot of redundant (masked audio) information in music, especially in a car with road/engine noise, so you aren't spoiling the experience any more than the fact you're in an ambient-noise environment... the reality is you're enjoying the music more as you have it with you, and dumping music from a PC to a NetMD recorder for the car is an easy and practical way to do it!

ATRAC sound is arguably the best compressed audio format in widespread use, so I'm curious what you base your comment on?

I can point you in numerous directions to various web sources to back this up.

But anyway... ;) so who want's to buy my old ICE! :whistling:

:D Sorry Kavey! I was just being a hi-fi snob/pedant there really! You're right about the convenience. Having spent a lot of my life pursuing ever better sound in hi-fi, I'm reluctant to let the perfectionism go! (My home system is worth about £20k+. DNM amplification. Special uprated CD, Full range Klipschorns /or Townshend Glastonburys)

You CAN hear the nuances of music in a LS400 though, better than any other car I've experienced. It's not yer boy-racer boom-boom system, but to hear the attack of a Flamenco guitar or the intake of breath on Fado record....(and it CAN rock too)

Off to Liverpool (from Bristol) this w/end so will be cruising and listening (and fetching a spare set of wheels en route back) :zee:

I think the autoleads one is about £25-£30 :question:

If you have an Altezza without heated seats like me, then you can use the JDM Fascia plate.

As I didn't have a separate amp (1999 car) all I needed was a Toyota > ISO harness (from auto leads). If you have a separate amp I think you need a different harness.
