Hi All

As a lot of you don't know my pride and joy had a problem with the alternator not charging so it needed further investigation which upon finding the Ls 400 weak spot the famous p.a.s pump leak which had given up the ghost and covered the alternator with fluid

So with working for a run of the mill car dealership myself i asked them if they wanted the job of fixing it and with a quick look at the car suprise suprise they said no

So i had to bite the bullet and phone Lexus as i trusted no other garage in my area , so they came and picked it up and took it away

.

The next day i went through to see the damage and was told it was a new alternator and p.a.s pump but while i was there i asked if they could look and see if the exhaust at the manifold was blowing as it sound like this,

fearing it was the other weak spot the EGR pipe my fears came true a little split in the pipe so that had to be fixed , and i thought why not go the whole hog and asked for the drivers door lock to be mended aswell from when some nice person tried to break into it a couple of months back

Anyway six days later i get a phone call today to say my car is ready to pick up and holding onto something i ask what the total bill would be for an alternator,a p.a.s pump ,a EGR pipe which you can't get to easily and a door lock all fitted less my L.O.C 10% discount

Anyone wants to hazard a guess at the price

i pick the car up tomorrow and hope they haven't made a mistake cos altogether with vat and discount they only charged me £923 and i don't know about you lot but i didn't think that was to bad for the work that i had done

Andy

How much were the parts? You could have saved a packet by ordering the parts from the US (40% of price here), and getting Lexus to fit it.

Next time eh!

I feel for you dude, I remember how scared I would be when my car was being serviced with Lexus when it was under warranty. The final bill would leave me quaking in my boots!

Lexus once charged me £1,000 to replace all four discs and pads. Now I have some more knowledge, the same job will cost me £400 using imported Lexus parts and ex-Lexus technician...

:question::question:

Do you NEED a Lexus specialist (your ex-technician) to fit new discs/pads? Or just a normal mechanic. (My MOT man once said 'These cars are pretty straight forward underneath' i.e. not some convoluted design-no transverse engine being prised in with no access....or, like my old Citroen DS; having to take out the engine to change the handbrake pads!!!!!)

Good tip, re parts, though.

Chris,

You are right, at the end of the day it's a car with brakes like other cars. Any garage should be able to handle the brakes. For a while I was getting my pads done at Kwik-Fit, and they used to take 160 quid for pads all round incl. labour, plus they were much nicer to talk to than my Lexus dealer.

i pondered on that option but looking at the price of a p.a.s pump and alternator from the u.s then the shipping and possible duty and vat it was about the same as Lexus and they get it the next day

i do all of my repairs on the car if i can but this was a bit beyond me with limited tools and a trolley jack glad i paid a bit extra and got someone who knew what they were doing

anyway i got a brand new is200 sport for a week while they had mine

That's odd. Which place in the US were you browsing for prices of the parts?

Sewell's in Texas are the place I used, and they were half price of UK prices even after shipping and VAT.

Oh well, the IS200 Sport must have brought a smile to your face!

Maneesh i've just checked that link for the u.s parts and a p.a.s pump from the u.s is £70 cheaper than what i paid from lexus but i hadn't included the shipping or possible vat as it wasn't stated so the u.s part in this case could be the same price or even more and a longer wait
