I believe the GPS receiver is part of the main Sat Nav unit in the boot and the GPS aerial is located on the rear shelf.

This is an aside, but why does my satnav get quite confused when its in central london? is that normal (because all the streets are so close together) or something i should have checked?

Are you still receiving a signal when it goes wrong?

Depending on version you either get a green GPS icon on screen or nothing when you have a signal and a red GPS icon or a GPS icon with a line/cross through it when you don't.

ok thanks for that, i'll keep a look out for it when i'm next in london, because it never seems to have any trouble except when in central london

In some situations, the GPS signals can bounce off tall buildings before reaching your car - this can confuse the system that works out your position.

on the earlier models the antenna is on the dash next to the auto headlamp sensor

i guess its the same on the later ones too.

Can you see it or is it hidden?

Thats not correct,

the 2 "blobs" on the dash, which incedently European mainland models dont have are for.

1. light sensor. for auto headlights (non-euro fitment)

2. Solar sensor for the air conditioning and climate control
