Lpg Conversion

Recommended Posts

My Dad will be taking delivery of his RX300 SE-L later in the month and he fancies an LPG conversion. His business partner is currently getting one done on his early RX300 and seems to have convinced him that they are great!

I was wondering if anyone had info as to how the RX300 converts? Does it run well? MPG? You know the type of stuff to make an informed decision.

Before getting it done, work out if you'll save anything.

Let's say you get 28MPG from it on petrol (thats what my dad got on his Camry and it's the same basic engine), that means you'll get about 24MPG from LPG (10-15% is standard).

So, let's say 10,000 miles in petrol and LPG will cost approx the following:-

Petrol : £1250

LPG : £800

So there is a saving of £450 for every 10,000 miles driven.

So, to break even it'll take around 35,000 miles, plus if the price of LPG goes up which now the tax is going up on it, the longer it takes to recover it.

So really, unless he does over 20,000 miles a year, I wouldnt bother.
