To anyone who knows about IPB!

I'm trying to develop an internal knowledgebase forum/noticeboard for the company I work for and as I'm keeping my options open at the moment, I'm looking out for good forum software (preferably free!) to do this.

LOC uses IPB and from what I've seen of it so far, it works great! I notice that members are allowed to upload and add attachments as links to their posts as well. Is this a feature of IPB cos I can't seem to find it in phpBB - this is what I'm currently experimenting on at the moment.

Any recommendations would be great - I don't think my company will spend any money on this project so any help or advice would be good. :duh:

I have setup and migrated from various versions of invision, and added quite a few mods and hacks - all for the LOC network.

however, I'm not prepared to discuss it in a public forum - especially not here - for very obvious reasons.

Hmm... well I feel stupid.

I've just found a hack that allows for posting attachments on the official phpBB site.

for what its worth, we moved away from phpBB as invision has a lot more functionality.

I also feel that IPB is more secure - to my certain knowledge phpBB was still vulnerable to a sql injection exploit at version 2. something

your choice mate - I'm not bothered which one you choose - just thought I would share my experiences ;)

You're obviously the more experienced out of us two - however, my company are stingy gets so no matter what I say, I doubt they'll fork out for IPB.

IPB is def. the better choice....and it's free. :)

we have used XMB, phpbb and came nowhere near as good as IPB

Gah! Stupid me (again).

I've just re-read the pricing policy for IPB and it does indeed look tops. I'll check it out next week and will probably give Matt a PM if I get stuck. Cheers mate! :D
