Altezza Turbo Problems

I have a ALtezza Turbo but it is pinking badly running 0.5 bar opf Boost. As far as i see there is no way to either reduce the boost or adjust ignition timing. Therefore the only solution i see is re mapping the ECU

Has anyone experienced this problem? Can anyone recommend someone to supply and fit a remapped managemnt chip??

Thx in advance people

The Toms cars use a TOMS ecu, which can be remapped, but only using the TOms software, the car should be run on as high octane fuel as possible.

whoever has bought this car, has bought a pain in the *****.......

they run like sheet as std, sprout oil leaks like crazy........

the clutch is a pain in the butt, will be a nightmare on motorways in the UK, when a traffic jam is encountered,

the cars werte built for racing, unless this one has come from a collector, its history could be very dubious, as the Altezza cup grid has been getting smaller over the years, so many of the cars have been rebuilt and returned to the roads!!!

if you need any more info........ask away

Thanks for your response. The car is nice to drive mate! The clutch is fine! And it does not look like its seen much track action at all! (compared to some of the more heavily modded cars ive had!)

Anyway.... Can you recommend anyone in the UK to map the ECU?

Or anyone to replace the managemnt chip alltogether with a more suitable "MAP".

Rgds

Andrew

TOMS agents............hmmmmmmmmm

scot i dont think they have any outside of japan.

i can speak to a "Friend" of mine, see if he can contact TOMS direct for a solution

Powervehicles.com, it sounds like you really have picked up a good car there, all the ones.(i say all the ones  .......like 3) ive looked at have been a little worse for ware.

its a car im still desperatly trying to get hold off though, i did contact a collector in Japan that had a "new" one 195km total, never raced, still had plastic on the seats etc etc.....

wanted ............. :crybaby:

£25,000 for it..................including shipping

Few things to check perhaps ...

Would most likely need a high octane fuel.

As it's turbo'd, probably has an additional fuel injector (or 2). Are they working ?

The signal to the engine management from the map sensor would need altering.

It'd be very confused to see a positive pressure reading. Does that work ?

In fact, could be any number of things. Incorrect plugs even ?

Just an observation, but 0.5bar sounds a touch high for a normally n/a engine.

Unless the compression ratio has been reduced perhaps ?

Sounds like a job for a specialist !! Best of luck though :)

Tony the engine isnt built as N/A, it has the lower compression .

ive fired a email to someone, just waiting for an answer back from them regarding TOMS.

however there intial questions are this.......

what are the CO readings,

has the lambda sensor been checked, they are also suggesting that the ECU could be faulty, how long has the car had the fault, has it been run on UK fuel without octane boosters, or the ignition curve worked on

The fault has been there since the car arrived and we put Optimax and octane booster in it. THe car just passed an MOT and SVA so we assume Lambda and CO is ok but i will re check it.

Is there anyone in the UK who could have a look at this car ("A specialist" is required me thinks)

Having owned several Turbo cars including N/A to Turbo conversions, I would say check the Ignition right through including leads/dizzy. To fully diagnose the problem can you give a more in-depth explanation..... Lambda sensor or ECU mapping/fuel/air intake sound likely but:

Is it worse when cold/hot?

Does it happen under full/light load?

Is the idle rough/ok?

Is the boost gauge reading ok?

Are pressure hoses connected?

What is the status of the Spark Plugs?

Has the cat been removed?

Any mods?

Sorry to ask so many questions but it might help... I have an MR2 Turbo (modified) and I have had several different boost problems which I have managed to resolve.

Is it worse when cold/hot? ALL THE TIME

Does it happen under full/light load? ONLY UNDER HEAVY LOAD

Is the idle rough/ok? A WEE BIT LOW WHEN COLD BUT GENERQLLY OK

Is the boost gauge reading ok? YES, AS FAR AS I KNOW

Are pressure hoses connected? YES

What is the status of the Spark Plugs? NOT CHECKED

Has the cat been removed? NO

Any mods? AIR FILTER, EXHAUST, IC, TURBO ETC

The difference in the octane rating might require an ECU remap....but you could try using octane booster first before going down this route.

I think you have some kind of boost or ignition problem....does the boost gauge drop off under hard accel? If so any rattles from the engine at this point?

Sorry for the questions...but I want to help as i know how difficult it is to get help when you have rare cars.

PS. Check the plugs...could be that simple
