Sticky Accelerator?

Recommended Posts

Anyone help with accelerator prob, stopped at garage filled up with petrol got back in lex and turned key to fire up engine as you do ,revs nearly shot off the clock could not blip throttle to stop it could only turn ignition off and start again,it was then ok.Later in the day joining dual carriage dropped down 4th to 3rd to join traffic as I did revs shot right up high again, had to drive with foot on brakes because what ever gear I was in the engine kept racing, eventually after many gear changes it then went back to normal revs.Phoned local lex garage he said IS 200's don't have any probs like that check your carpets,so I did but why should my carpet start doing it now?have had car about a year

Any thoughts

Yeah had this problem myself a couple of weeks ago and was flying along a bypass at 130 while trying to figure out what was going on. I'd put another mat on top of the standard one to stop it getting dirty when I was at Japs but it nearly backfired on me big style - lucky to be here.

Do your mats have the retaining clip to stop them sliding too far up to the pedal?

If not you can get a genuine set without the problem for about 70quid.

i had this in a courtesy car this earlier this year, the little clip was missing. It does come as a bit of a shock when you take your foot off and you keep going!!!!
