Cars Thieves Hate

Recommended Posts

The first-ever list of Britain's most secure cars has been released - but insurers say it won't affect premiums.

The results were announced at the British Insurance Car Security Awards. Models such as the Citroen C3 and Audi A3 achieved five-star ratings for their resistance to break-ins and thefts, and were praised by Home Office Minister Hazel Blears for their "significant impact on cutting car crime". But a spokesman for the Association of British Insurers, which commissioned the research used to compile the new ratings, said it was "up to individual insurance companies" to offer discounts to owners of the award-winning models.

We called scores of insurers to ask if they planned to pass on any discounts - and none said they would. An Axa spokeswoman told us: "These measures are already taken into account in our premiums. We won't be giving any extra discounts because of these awards."

This doesn't surprise me.

My father lost the keys to his Rover Sterling, N plate.

We had to ring a professional automotive locksmith to come out and get into the car, re-cut new keys etc.

The guy cam out, looked at the car, went into the back of his van with a huge array of tools, drawers etc, and came back with a key ring with two keys on it.

The first one did,'t open the door, the second one did :sick:

While he was working (he took out the boot lock and cut new keys from it), I asked him how long it would take him to get into my IS, all the time thinking if he walks back from the van with two keys on a key ring, I'll either vomit, faint or **** - or maybe all three

He reckoned it would take him around 45 minutes to get in, and it would be quite messy.

Felt better then. :D

Great to know the IS is so good in the security stakes. Unfortunately, this doesn't stop the bastards vandalising paint work etc. Perhaps 6000 volts along with auto full closure would help... :shifty:
