Petrol Fill-up Is Slow

Recommended Posts

Bought my first new Lexus a couple of months ago and am very satisfied. My only gripe is that it seems to take an age to fill up with gas!

I find that if I squeeze the filler nozzle handle in a normal way, the petrol supply cuts out immediately. The only way to fill-up is to squeeze the handle very slightly and this takes an age to fill the tank from empty. I've tried various filling stations, all seem to be the same.

Anything I'm missing? Anyone out there experienced the same problem on an RX 300? Any solution/suggestions welcomed.

I have a 1990 300ZX and have the same problem! It must be a japanese thing. I've found some garages far worse than others, Shell for example. The upside down thing does help.

That is certainly the trick on the IS's - turn the gun upside down, no problem :)

Yes it is a problem on the RX. There was a topic on this last year. It feels worse on the RX because you have to hold the filler nozzle so high and it makes your arm hurt.

The solution to that is to support the 'pipe' with your other hand so you have a fairly high arch - it takes the weight off your trigger hand.

I have a new RX300-SE and petrol pumps only cuts out if I insert the nozzle all the way. Try inserting the nozzle ~4/5 of the way, that works fine for me.

..........Thanks. The upside down trick does work most of the time. Different filling stations seem to have different makes of petrol pump and the angle of the filling nozzle v's the angle of the RX300 filling pipe seems to vary. Sometimes this leaves a dangerously small amount of nozzle in the pipe..........however, I have found a local BP station where I have been able to fill up quickly, with the nozzle upside down, so they will have most of my petrol purchases in future. The bonus is that BP are in the Nectar points scheme so I'm in for a bonus too!
