Thought I'd share this with you ............ (Have been given permission by Admin)

Had some major problems with my gearbox over the last couple of weeks - the clutch has nearly gone on the First/Second stage and also I have had a problem with the TRC & ABS light kept appearing.

Rang round a few garages and found a some in Aylesbury, went down there this morning to a garage -

DS Automotive, Jap Car Specialist

for a Diag Reading done on the ECU, he traced the problem down to an Earth Problem on the ABS Pump Thingy, tried his upmost to track which wire it was, after about 1 Hr and after removing the covers etc to try and get to the wires involded and putting in a temp wire to reslove this until I can get back to him for a more perment fix, No Charge involded as he was unable to give a perment fix at the time - TOP BLOKE.

Also just round the corner was a garage -

STA Gearbox's

for the problem with my gearbox for them to have a look and find ouot what is happening and how much damage I was going to do by "Light" driving, they stripped the sump off - , saw the - ermmmmm - bottom of the gearbox, near seen anything like this, I've seen gearbox's before not like this, will post a picc later when I get home, they checked the filter, the solenoids for damage and also the base plate, replaced the gasket and also new transmission fliud and did a leak test, about 2 Hrs in total with checks. Need to book the motor back for the replacement clutch to be fitted but again - No Charge from here either.

In total these 2 garages saved me today min of £80 odd, also both of these ppls will be going to the events @ Silverstone and JAE.

The motor is booked in the end of July so that the repairs don't interfer with any shows (their words).

If anyone is interested in these 2 Garages, their details are

DS Automotives, 29 - 30 Rabans Close, Aylesbury, Bucks. HP19 8RS

Tel - 01296 420 000, ask for Dave Stone

STA Gearbox's, 35 Edison Road, Rabans Lane, Aylesbury, Bucks.

Tel - 01296 481 145

If you mention the LOC or me, they'll know to help out fellow members.

My deed for the day

Paul

Great to see service like that still exists - hope the post helps generate some business for them in return.

My thoughts also, was stumped when they both said no charge, just bring the car back when you want the work done.

Excellent way of getting you to go back to get the job done.

Hopefully it will put the word out and generate some business for them but to much as mine goes in soon for the rebuild  can't have then fully booked now

  • 3 weeks later...

Well the beast lives again, just got the car back after a complete G/Box rebuild, took them 3 days and a lot of parts.

Most of the clutch pads  were replaced, some wiring needed recovering and a cilinder block type of thing that controls something in there also needed repairing.

Have been told all this damage was down to me giving to much grief to the box during racing and also that I was running on "Min" oil in the box aswell  , know next time though.

Everything has been uprated to match the engine rate to give better performance, did a quick blast (very quick - I need to run the box in again) but there was a noticable difference in take off and smoothness.

Naaaaa Aido,

If that was the case, I'd only have knackered second gear :lol:

I knackered most of the box doing *** while in Germany running on min oil in the box  oppps.

Take you on next time mate - I think Santa Pod is coming up soon, fancy a go.

Hehe, my top speed is gay :P

Still, just think of the look on that Porsche drivers face you were telling me about

Wouldn't dare have a race at the Pod, one problem is that I wouldn't fit in the car with a helmet on as I'd need to cut the roof off :P You'd probably kill me!!

You bet mate, last time I had the G/Box rebuilt, they used UK parts for the friction material plating and also the soleniods. Now the garage has put on the correct parts etc.... the car is very smooth and noticably quicker on the off take aswell, got used to the way the car drove before but this time it feels as if the power is there now and the car wants to goooooooo

Steve - It's not very often that you come across a decend couple of companies that offer this level of service.
