Sat-nav Specialists

Recommended Posts

I'm after a specialist autoelectrician who has experience in fixing satnav units. The garage I bought it from says it's the laser, but the guy who repairs them is having trouble finding a replacement laser, personally I just don't think he knows where to look. The software and hardware of the system works fine, the menus to change the display etc come up, the only that it wont do is actually read a disc, i keep getting the error message "insert disc, check door" and yes, there is a disc in there (which is ok, a new disc from lexus has been tried, with the same error message). So it's a laser/disc transport kind of program.

Anyone got any recommendations of a company/person who may be able to help in the london/high wycombe area?

(I got a 1250quid discount because of this problem, i'm pretty sure i can get it fixed for less than that!!!)

well, steveaudioX has taken mine away to get it looked at.

The verdict is the laser is knackered, but unfortunetly, sourcing a new one is proving a little tricker than anticipated. Thats the problem. :(

so, if we can both get a new laser, we're laughing!

Same problem here on my IS 200 - half the time my Sat nav unit functions then the other half it stops reading the CD & has one of a few error messages 'CD unreadable', 'insert disc, check door' etc.

I would be keen to hear how I get this fixed - Lexus quoted £2K plus to replace or £1k for an exchange unit (if available). I can get Sat Nav & GPS Gatso software for £200 !!!

Nick,

I've got the same problem  :crying:

Have you had any news back yet from Audio Technical?

Al

i rang them today actually, wondering what has happened!

They are just awaiting final details of the parts involved and are sorting out a price, apparently will let me know sometime next week. It's been difficult for them to trace the parts down, and lexus have been rather secretive so they were saying.

Lets just see how much it will cost now!!!

Cheers Nick,

I got so fed up with having a dead unit I bit the bullet and spent the £1100 (After gold membership discount) on a recon unit. The place I bought the car is giving me some cash towards it but its still stupidly expensive.

I'm now half way through a letter to Lexus UK complaining that the unit should last longer than three years and the replacement shouldn't cost so much. I can't work out what they do on in it that warrents 1100 quid!

I wish I'd bought a non navigator and bought a PDA with Tom Tom :(

Thanks for trying though and I hope you can find a resolution too.

Al
