Climbing The Eiger

Recommended Posts

hi all,

A few friends and i have been talking recently and we are trying to plan an ascent of the Eiger at Grindelwald in Switzerland sometime next summer, at the moment we have 2 options the "Mittellegi Ridge" and the " South Ridge" although at the moment these are looking the best as these routes offer the the widest flexibility for weather conditions, things are subject to change!

There is a lot of serious training involved over the upcoming months and as the date draws nearer i will keep everyone upto date.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that i am planning to raise some sponsorship for this and that donations will be made to a charity in the UK( charity unkown at this moment in time)

the Eiger ( means Ogre in german) is 13,025 ft / 3970M high, we will only try this in summer when the conditions are favourable and easier, there is no way we will do the North face as it is far too demanding and dangerous.

For practice we have looked at climbing the Jungfrau which is behind the Eiger, it is higher but is easier to do and is possible to climb in 1 day, the Eiger is 2 days.

this we might go for later in the year.

will be going to Chamonix next weekend to have a look at some equipment, try stuff out etc then order it from the net!

Thanks very much to everyone that has offered sponsorship, but I still have a long time ahead, in fact it is going to be about this time next year when the main event will take place ( mmmmm a winter ascent?? :duh: )
