Brakes

How I laughed when I phoned CarParts direct and asked for a price for two rear brake discs and pads

A short wait later I was advised that they were £89 each plus vat and the pads were £40 plus VAT

Aye right, whatever........

Having found a new set elsewhere for £80 plus vat can someone advise me how easy they are to fit, provided I remember to release the handbrake first......

remove five wheel studs..

remove two main bolts from back of brake caliper closest to body of car, rest brake caliper on something, ie maybe the removed wheel, in order not to over stretch the brake pipe...

for the rears, YES, release the handbrake..pull the disc away from wheel...hey presto..disc is off.

IF disc is a little reluctant carefully encourage it off, as the handbrake shoes may be very close to inner edge of disc and restricting free movement..

The front should be easier onece the wheel and caliper is removed and should just slide off.

(Over the weekend, I removed a rear brake disc to replace a sheared wheel stud thread.. I FORGOT the HANDBRAKE, and left it on wondering why the disc wouldnt come off, and overstretched a retaining spring on the handbrake shoe..Causing me terrible knocking noise as the spring hit the studs on every revolution of the wheel. This is now sorted with the metal item holding the spring now crimped tighter)
