Jammed Gas Pedal?

Recommended Posts

on my back from work today i stepped on gas bit more than i usually do. but the gas pedal jammed somehow causing it rev itself & yes my foot was off it by that time & i had to brake really hard to slow right down. it was scary but luckily no car/people was in front! this happened few times before but i thought it was the carpet over the gas pedal or something but im not so sure now....& it was'nt so bad previously. i also notice by pressing the gas pedal down(engine off) there is slight creaking noise not notice it before.

anyone had this experience or know what the prob can be? in bit uncomfortable using the car now & won't be using it tomorow.....

btw is a Lexus IS200 auto.

cheers

This can be caused by the mats - are your mats secured by the plastic holder - I think there was a known design flaw in the old mats which is why the newer ones can be fixed so they don't slip forward.

May be an idea to take the mat out and see if you can replicate the problem, this would at least give you an idea if that is the problem or not.

Might be safer to try flooring the pedal when the car is off and stationary though.

Happened to me a while back when I'd put another mat on top of the existing one to stop it getting dirty when I was at a show.
